To keep things simple, when tagging your podfic posts on amplificathon it is only essential that you add reader and fandom tags. If the tags you need do not exist, or if you are unsure which tags to use, I'll be happy to help you with them/create new ones for you as necessary.

If cross posting to both LJ and DW, be aware that fandom tags differ between the two coms as we have only 1000 total tag slots on LJ as opposed to 2000 on DW. This means that you'll find a few "small fandom:" tags and a few other general umbrella tags on LJ not found on DW.

The "!not archived" tag is used by the archivers to find podfics that have not yet been added to the Audiofic Archive. I will do my best to make sure the tag is put in place as necessary. This now applies to both DW and LJ, so if you prefer to add the "!not archived" tag yourself and you are cross posting, this tag should be added on both comms.

Hope this all makes sense. :-)

And here is the second of today's two Official Mod Posts. If you are a podfic artist, then one of the bodies of work you know best of all is your own! In the comments below, rec one (or more) podfic(s) of yours that you think stands out, that you want to particularly direct listeners to. And explain why! Interpret the prompt in any way you want—just name a work of yours that you love and talk about why.

Hi!

Welcome to the final day of Amplirecathon! Today, anybody may post any recs they want, without needing to have signed up.

This is the first of two Official Mod Posts for gathering recs that I'll make—a rec request post! In the comments of this post, if there are any categories of podfic rec that you'd like to ask for, make a request, and others can reply to your comment with podfic recs that fit your request. For example, if you're like me and loved [personal profile] kalakirya's characterization recs and would like to request other podfics where people feel the reader particularly stood out at their characterization of one or more of the characters in the story, you can post a comment with that request. Or if you are trying out a specific new fandom and want more recs in that fandom, or want recs of readers who have a certain style, etc.

Got it? Okay! Request and rec away!

Hi, guys!

Due to the interconnected nature of the Marvel movies, and with future movies involving the same and different characters inevitable, I've decided to combine the already existing movieverse tags (avengers, thor, captain america, and iron man) into one tag: avengers & related marvel movies.

Another factor in the decision to do this now rather than later is that LJ, unlike DW, does not allow merging of tags, so each post must be changed manually, making it only sensible to create the umbrella tag now rather waiting until many more entries would be involved.

Of course, the old marvel tag also remains to cover the comics and non-movie Marvel fandoms or cases when the movies and comics overlap. :-)

Remember, too, that specific fandoms under the umbrella tag can be searched for in the Audiofic Archive if you find the need.

Does anyone have strong feelings about deleting the post:podbook tag?

Many posters do not add the tag, so I am frequently adding it myself. Also, it is not uncommon for those who post links only on their own journals to not specify what formats they've used, so it requires clicking through to those sites to find out if a podbook is being offered and therefore if the tag is needed.

I originally created the tag to make it easy for me to find my own podbook posts. With more and more readers making their own podbooks, however, and with me making fewer myself, this is no longer a useful tool for me. I'm leaning toward thinking the tag has become unnecessary, especially now that the Archive is to date (YAY!) and searching by format is a simple matter there.

Thoughts?

Monday, July 30: ALL THE RECS

Leave a comment to this post to claim date(s). We'll update the post to show dates claimed. Please try to pick dates that haven't already been claimed so we have a more even spread for the festival!

We would love to have several posts every day if we can get them, so please feel free to request an already-claimed date.

We'd also like to mention that no matter where you've signed up, you can post your recs to either the LJ or DW community, and you can crosspost to both sites if you like! We will make a master rec post with the dates and signups on both sites that will be regularly updated with links to the rec posts once they are made (so you don’t miss out if you don’t follow both communities).

Welcome to the Amplirecathon, a podfic recs fest! All podfic enthusiasts are welcome and encouraged to sign up.

Time Schedule
The signups open today, Monday, July 2, so you can claim your date and start planning the podfics you'd like to rec right away. The festival itself lasts for two weeks: Monday, July 16 to Monday, July 30.

Each day, one or more people will post podfic recs to the [community profile] amplificathon/[livejournal.com profile] amplificathon communities. Participation is simple: you post on the date you claimed during sign up. You can choose as many or as few days as you like, but we do ask that if you claim a day that you post on that day.

As many of you may have noticed, Amplirecathon is later this year than in previous ones. The main reason for this is that we wanted to wait until both Amplificathon and PodBigBang were over, so that reccers could include some of these stories. Because while a central purpose of rec lists is to share our all-time favorites, the most interesting rec lists for readers are often those that introduce them to stories, readers, fandoms that they have not encountered before, and rare fandoms/recent recordings are more likely to be new to those reading your reclist.

Description
Your rec post can be anything you want to share: a single story, stories from a single fandom, a single reader, random stories you like, or a thematic rec list of sorts. As mentioned above, we strongly encourage you to include new podfic and new readers—hopefully at least a few on each list that were released since the last round of amplirecathon.

Descriptions of the podfic can be as simple or detailed as you want them to be. You can list just the basic info (fandom, reader, name, author, length, and link) or you can go into depth about why you are recommending each particular podfic. Readers tend to love hearing what makes a podfic special to you: the details of the story and its presentation, your response to the recording, or the reasons the reading resonates with you personally. If you want ideas for how to put your feelings about podfics into words, you can check out this post. One last thing: qualified recs are fine, but if you are recommending it, please focus on what's good about it as well. :)

Prompts
If you want to see what kinds of rec posts fans have made in previous years, check out Amplirecathon 2010 and Amplirecathon 2011. You can use these as models or come up with completely different and new themes and formats. We'd especially love if a couple people chose to experiment with video or audio recs, perhaps including clips from the recced podfics and then giving verbal commentary about what makes each clip so great!

Here is a convenient banner and code to use if you want to promote the fest!

Please spread the word! The more the merrier!

As you may know the Audiofic Archive was out of commission for over a year and the archivists could only look on with horror as the 'not archived' tag grew and grew and grew.

By the time we could archive again the tag was in the thousands, it has since been whittled down to the last couple of hundred posts. But considering the time that has passed a lot of the older posts have dead links, either due to time or megaupload.

WE NEED YOUR HELP. If podficcers could check that all of their posts that are still tagged 'not archived' have working download links, the archivists will be able to whip in and *gasp* finally catch up completely:D

[personal profile] podmod
When posting a podfic to amplificathon there are a few things you can do to make it easier for the people who will upload your work to the Audiofic Archive and create an entry for you. To be clear, these are just suggestions that will help the archivists and get your podfic uploaded as quickly as possible, no one is going to be enforcing them or penalising people who don't follow them.

There’s nothing archivists love more than details! The more information you can include in your post, the more accurate the archive entry will be. Here are some suggestions about what would make the archivists lives easier:

  • Use full names when you’re listing pairings OR clearly state that the podfic is gen.
  • Name the cover artist so we can give them the credit they deserve, especially if it’s you! We never just assume. :)
  • If a fandom is new or you think the archivists might have trouble categorising it, let us know whether it’s a book or a movie or manga etc.
  • If the fic you are podficcing is part of a series please say so, even if you do not plan to record the rest of the series (someone else might do so at a later time).
  • Tell us how long the podfic is and what file type(s) you’ve uploaded, as well as the MB size. Note that the Archive requires an mp3 version for accessibility's sake.
  • Tag your podfic with ‘not archived’, ‘fandom:whatever’ & ‘reader:whoever’. If you cross post to both DW and LJ, it's only necessary to use the not archived tag on DW. It is also very helpful if you state in your post that you have cross posted to both comms.
  • Including a download link in the body of your post (as opposed to a link to another post) streamlines the process for archivists (and other downloaders!).
  • The fewer podfics you include in one post, the more likely it is that they will be archived in a timely manner. The archivists are delicate souls and tend to be frightened off by posts with double digit numbers of podfics. ALL posts WILL be archived, just some quicker than others:)

If you have any questions about these points or anything else involved in posting your podfic, please let us know!

There's just over 12 hours left until the Amplificathon challenge ends (at -12 UTC to be exact -- see what time that is for you*), so get your podfics ready and post post post!

The final standings will hopefully be up by the end of the week (points mod is under the weather, so bear with us!). We'll also be looking for volunteers to create prizes soon! Keep your eyes peeled for an announcement. :)

* before anyone asks, the event calendar isn't set to midnight because the actual last time zone is uninhabited, so you can't input any cities from it! instead it's been based on 1am -11 UTC. (which...*should* be midnight at -12 UTC, but time zones are *hard* so let us know if we've mucked it up)

Stupid me! I forgot to mention that page hit counts are back at the Audiofic Archive!

Not as nice as comments for feedback, I grant you, but still great for readers to have access to!

The podfic archiving backlog is slowly but surely dwindling: yay to all my fellow archivers who have been working feverishly toward this end. ❤

For those of you who use the Audiofic Archive, there are a couple of things to be aware of. First, the type-in search window is still not working for entries made after the problems started last June; it does appear to be working for older entries. You can still find what you want by searching the Wayfinding tags, however, so don't despair!

Also, there is no longer a Comment to Entry form on each podfic page. This is a feature, not a bug, due to the fact that it was generating a lot of spam, which in turn caused a lot of extra work and problems for the site and its maintainers. There was also a misunderstanding that listeners could leave feedback for authors/readers there when they could really only be reached via the comment to author/reader links.

The downside of losing the ability to comment is that there is no easy way to let us know if there are problems with links, tags, etc. on any given podfic page. With the rate new pages are being generated, we know many such problems likely exist. :-(

On a personal note, I'm clearly an OCD lying liar who lies, so despite announcing that I was stepping down as SPN and SPN RPF archiver last October, I kept archiving and have pretty much caught up the backlog in those fandoms! Now, though, I really am going to be more of a part time archiver and assistant, which should enable me to get back to my first love, compiling podbooks. I'll always be around as a general resource, too, so let me know if I can be of help.

I think that I have archived all Merlin (BBC) & Merlin (BBC) RPF podfics as well as all other podfics in whichever fandom which were posted with a Merlin podfic**. So if you've posted podfic(s) of this sort that have not yet been archived, please let me know. Also, if I've made any errors, please let me know.

**The two exceptions are [#InformalTwitterPodficExchange 2011 Masterlist] and [The Awesome Ladies Podfic Anthology II], which I am currently in the middle of archiving.

Cross-posted to LJ & DW amplificathon.

Hello amplificathoners!

This is [personal profile] were_duck, your friendly amplificathon challenge points mod!

We're about halfway through this year's challenge and so far we've got over 40 participants and a TON of new podfic!

With jinjurly's audiofic archive back up and running, I'd like to take a moment to thank our heroic team of archivists. Over the past couple of weeks, [personal profile] aphelant, [personal profile] cybel, [personal profile] dodificus, and [personal profile] fish_echo, have been making a staggering dent in the backlog of works to be uploaded! Thank you so much for all that you do for the podfic community, to keep everyone's work discoverable to listeners both on the journal site comms and in the archive.

We have a pretty clear front-runner this year, wow--congratulations to [personal profile] tinypinkmouse for all of that new podfic! But remember, we've still got half the 'thon left! And plus, there are prizes for more than just who has the most points :)

Between [personal profile] aphelant and myself we've tallied and double-checked the points on all of your challenge posts--if you have any disputes or corrections, please PM one of us or drop an email to audmod [at] gmail [dot] com and we'll make sure to take care of it before the next update!

Without further ado, here is the table of current standings for the 2012 Amplificathon Challenge!

Thank you so much for all the great new podfic!

For those of you who are wondering where the not archived tag went, I've moved it to the top of the tag list by changing it to !not archived. This makes it easier to find and add to your posts, and easier for the archivists to change to archived after they've archived the post.

cybel: (amplificathon tagging mod)
[personal profile] cybel
Most posters do not bother to use the post:crossover tag, so I'm forever adding it. However, in the Archive there is no crossover tag, and podfics are tagged only with each fandom involved.

How do you guys feel about dropping the crossover tag here as well?
cybel: (amplificathon tagging mod)
[personal profile] cybel
After conferring with the other mods and finding that no one is sure why the current settings were decided on (they may just be default settings, in fact), we've decided to go ahead and change the tags settings so everyone posting can use the already made tags whether they remember/choose to join the comm or not. This will apply both here and on LJ.

Making new tags, and changes to existing tags, will continue to be mod-only functions. :-)

hey all!

so. all malware is purged from the archive, and all software is reinstalled, and, most importantly, we've verified that all the files that had been uploaded are still there.

there are a few wrinkles, though. they have to do with a few of the more recent archive entries (the way listeners search for the podfic files), and archivists' ability to create new archive entries.

this is something that needs repair, and i'm looking for someone who would be willing to help me with it - either with sorting out the mysql database (there's an error in there, somewhere, and i haven't been able to diagnose it), or with hiring someone who would be able to sort it out.

if you can help, please leave me a comment or drop me an email - jinjurly at gmail. thank you.
