Amplirecathon 2013 ends today (though the rec request and self-rec posts have just begun! Go visit them!) but we are thrilled to announce that something even better is officially opening its doors today: podfic_love, a year-round podfic reccing community! Check out the welcome post here, and if you can, please support it by signing up as a reccer for one of the upcoming months!

Welcome to the final day of Amplirecathon! Today, anybody may post any recs they want, without needing to have signed up.

This is the first of two Official Mod Posts for gathering recs that will be made -- a rec request post! In the comments of this post, if there are any categories of podfic rec that you'd like to ask for, make a request and others can reply to your comment with podfic recs that fit your request.

For example, if you're like us and loved kalakirya's characterization recs and would like to request other podfics where people feel the reader particularly stood out at their characterization of one or more of the characters in the story, you can post a comment with that request. Or if you are trying out a specific new fandom and want more recs in that fandom, or want recs of readers who have a certain style, etc.

Time Schedule
We're posting the sign-up post today, on Wednesday, July 3. The festival itself lasts for two weeks: Wednesday, July 17 to Wednesday, July 31.

Each day, one or more people will post podfic recs to the amplificathon/amplificathon communities. Participation is simple: you post on the date you claimed during sign up. You can choose as many or as few days as you like, but we do ask that if you claim a day that you post on that day.

New this year: Halfway through posting, on Wednesday, July 24th, we will have Cover Art Day, where we celebrate some of the amazing cover art that has been created for podfics. If you have cover art you'd like to rec, please sign up to post on that day, and we will also have put up several mod posts that center around the topic of cover art :)

Description
Your rec post can be anything you want to share: one story, stories from one fandom, random stories you like, or a thematic rec list. We strongly encourage you to include new podfic and new readers—hopefully at least a few on each list that were released in the time since the last round of amplirecathon.

Descriptions of the podfic can be as simple or detailed as you want them to be. You can simply list the basic info (fandom, reader, name, author, length, and link) or you can go into depth about why you are recommending this particular podfic. Readers (and potential listeners) tend to love hearing what makes a podfic special to you: the details of the story and its presentation, your response to the recording, or the reasons the reading resonates with you personally. If you want ideas for how to put your feelings about podfics into words, you can check out this post. One last thing: qualified recs are fine, but if you are recommending it, please focus on what's good about it as well. :)

Prompts
If you want to see what kinds of rec posts fans have made in previous years, check out Amplirecathon 2010, Amplirecathon 2011, and Amplirecathon 2012. You can use these as models or come up with completely different and new themes and formats. You may especially want to look at some of the ways reccers experimented with audio recs last year. We love experimentation with different forms for reccing, whether that means incorporating audio, video, action figures, limericks, rec-ipes, or anything else your heart desires!

now that we've dealt with who posted last, we can get to who posted first! and we have two winners! HOW'S THAT POSSIBLE HOW CAN TWO PEOPLE BE FIRST you ask?

didn't we just get done discussing linear time, and how it's for the birds? well. it's also...confusing? and following a lot of poking at entries and also at poor tired podmod memories, we called a winner, and that winner was multiple. the true spirit of the intrepid award is in not being afraid to plunge right in, and both of the winners embodied that this year! kalakirya and kdheart! congratulations on your bravery and also your lack of procrastination!

hey hey it's that time! over the next two days, we'll be announcing the winners of the 2013 amplificathon!

/aside where i make a speech in which i say "...but aren't we ALL winners, really?" and get all dewy-eyed.


FIRST UP! BLIPVERT.

if you were watching closely (or watching twitter at the right time), then you'll know all about the bloodthirsty competition that raged to make the shortest possible podfic this year in order to bag the blipvert award. in the process, analise010 and kdheart pushed hard at what was possible to cut while still keeping a recording identifiably a podfic. also, they fostered a friendly rivalry until it became a feud that will surely last at least a few seconds.

Sorry this is a couple of days late--your points mod had an attack of life and death of technology, so I hope you can forgive me.

We've got some folks really racking up the points, but there are still a lot of you in the game! Keep posting!

Hello Amplificathoners!

This is your friendly points-tracking podmod, were_duck, with your first points update for the Amplificathon 2013 Challenge \o/!

If you missed the amplificathon challenge announcement, here is a link to the amplificathon 2013 FAQ! You don't have to sign up officially to play--just make a podfic, calculate your points and include your points tally for the post at the bottom before posting to the community!

The 'thon has only been on for a few days but we've already got several participants making a strong showing for themselves in the challenge so far. Please do double-check the table and PM a mod if our totals for you don't match yours. If you posted podfic to the community since March 15th but didn't put a points tally in the body of your post, I didn't count you in this update. However, it's certainly not too late to jump in if you'd still like to play--just PM a mod with a link to your post if you do go back and add a tally to it, or just start adding points on any future posts you make to the comm during the challenge!
