No problem! It's not super clear just from poking around on this site so I'm happy to clarify! The audiofic archive is a place where podfic can be archived, or uploaded to a server. The archive was created because podfic download links were often on sites that had download caps (so the file became inaccessible after like 25 downloads or whatever) or just sites we feared might not be reliable in keeping files up (megaupload used to be a site that people used and when that got shut down podfic that wasn't otherwise archived disappeared.) If a podfic is on the archive than it can be preserved so that even if someone wants to listen to a podfic from 5 years ago (or 5 years from now!) it can still be accessible!

In fact, the amplificathon challenge started as a way to diversify the podfic hosted on the archive because most podfic was being made in only a couple of fandoms, hence why you get more points for unrepresented/underrepresented fandoms and pairing (according to the audiofic archive) during the challenge. [community profile] amplificathon is a primary place where podfic gets archived from. There is a group of us volunteers who are your friendly neighborhood archivers and we makes sure every podfic posted here and on [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon gets up onto the archive.

So every post on this comm is either tagged !notarchived for anything not yet on the audiofic archive or archived when it is being archived (so that another archiver doesn't try to archive it at the same time) as well as continuing to be tagged that after it has successfully been archived. Probably more information than you were looking for, but I find podfic history really cool! If you are at all interested in that as well, I recommended poking around on [community profile] pod_aware (a week celebrates podfic and tries to spread information about this type of fanwork) and specifically listening to this podcast But I'm a dork for meta so maybe just of interest to me xD but that podcast specifically talks about how the archive got started and why coming from the person who got it all running, [personal profile] general_jinjur.

I hope that helped clarify and feel free to pepper me with more questions if you have them!
