[identity profile] podmod.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] amplificathon
so we're working hard here at podmind hivequarters to figure out winners and prizes and get it all sorted in a timely manner!

podcat.

podcat has taken charge of the paperwork to ensure proper distribution of prizes.

yes, i am ashamed of myself. i have no excuse.

and yes, by timely i do mean that you aren't going to have to wait much longer before we start!

but right now? well, i'd like to start a rec-fest! i wish i could say i was going to kick it off, but, tragically, the only three offerings i've managed to listen to so far are the three i beta'd. and while i think those are awesome, i am also thinking i have a conflict of interest.

but! i am still very bossy full of suggestions! so. rec us one (or three! or seven!) of the amplificathon podfics! tell us what you liked about the reader's interpretation, or voice, or phrasing, or story choice! tell us your favorite, or the one that surprised you. tell us about the one that sucked you into a new fandom.

listeners, this is your chance to post! go for it!

Kalimyre's "Jeeves Has A Theory", read by Dodificus. Good story, good delivery, perfect comic timing, and so very Wodehouse!

Also, [livejournal.com profile] thefannishwaldo's reading of Sam Storyteller's "Trying to Communicate". FOR GRATE LOLZ.

At first glance, I thought that picture was of Rodney!cat and a physics proof. :)

I am ashamed that I haven't actually listened to any podfics from the thon. *ducks tomatoes* THERE'S JUST SO MANY! And organizing iTunes is a bitch. :\

There were quite a few that I saw posted that I was extremely excited about, but I was dumb and didn't download them immediately. Luckily there are now tags! *cuddles you*

oh oh oh! actually, i do have a rec!

[livejournal.com profile] cinderlily's recording of her story if, then (http://community.livejournal.com/amplificathon/4094.html). it's major league baseball rps, and, well, do i need to say more? when i saw it had been posted, i was so excited! it was exactly what i had hoped this challenge would produce. and then i talked to her about it, and she pointed me at adorable youtube clips so i could figure out what the pairing was.

DUDES. she taught me her fandom. <3 <3 <3!

Second this (and slightly surprised no one else has - I mean, what a new fandom to come to podfic!)

one rec at a time...

So far nothing's beat I Would Rather Be Anywhere Else Than Here Today (http://jinjurly.com/audio/i-would-rather-be-anywhere-else-than-here-today-audiobook/), which is a Slings & Arrows story about Oliver Welles, written by [livejournal.com profile] spuffyduds and read by [livejournal.com profile] zabira.

I hadn't read this before I heard the podfic, and since then it's been haunting me. Spuffyduds wrote an amazing, just, gogglingly amazing story about the washed up and pervy Oliver Welles, trying to stop himself from making mistakes and getting off on performing the tragedy of his life to a local and sympathetic bartender (an original character who positively sings).

Zabira's reading is low, and slow, and sort of snarky in a "this is my sarcastic face" kind of way, and transported me right smack into that bar, right there on a stool next to Oliver listening to him tell Neil precisely how he plans to continue sabotaging himself till he's dead. The reading's clear and quiet and unglamorous, just like Oliver, and a little tired, and a little miserable. It's perfect.

It's really difficult to decide where to start. There were a lot of great podfics created during the amplificathon. Until now I went with the suprise-myself-strategy (put everything on the iPod and select shuffle) :

As Many As Stars In The Sky by Vehemently (http://community.livejournal.com/amplificathon/50099.html): winkingstar (https://www.dreamwidth.org/users/benutzername/) made me pick my copy of 'The Neverending Story' from the bookshelf and start reading it again :).

A Beautiful Fable by Agentotter (http://community.livejournal.com/amplificathon/78797.html) : malnpudl (https://www.dreamwidth.org/users/benutzername/) reads Emily with the perfect mix of weariness and love for her mother. (Wilby Wonderful)

The World Is Crumbling All Around Us (http://community.livejournal.com/amplificathon/57827.html): didn't know the 'MacDonald Hall' fandom before, but aphelant (https://www.dreamwidth.org/users/benutzername/) has the dry humor of Pru down to an art.

I'm seconding your 'As many stars in the sky' and 'the world is crumbling all around us' recs. I loved both of those. Winkingstar had a gorgeous fairy tale voice:)

Eeee, thank you so much! ♥

I've always hated my recorded voice, so enlisting in this challenge was rather a crazy thing for me to do. But I decided my recorded voice was not so bad as I thought. And now I'm discovering that other people actually like my voice and my readings. :D

Quick recs, for my hands are hurting:

[livejournal.com profile] malnpudl's reading of A Natural History of the Watch. Completely awesome story, see her notes.

[livejournal.com profile] greyonblue's Lord of the Rings podfics (see LotR tag). Her voice is just perfect for the stories. I can't believe these are her first podfics.

The Jeeves stories, Detroit Ragtime and The Big Blue triedunture read and wrote are simply wonderful. I tell you, as I have already told her, her voice is amazing!
It´s so often the materiality of the voice that attracts and fascinates me most when listening to audiobooks or podfics - having said said that, jadesfire2808´s voice is very pleasing to the ear, too.
But actually it´s kind of impossible to pick the "best". There are simply too much good stuff.

What´s more interesting: Why do I always have to mess up my comments with grammatical errors?

And thank you so much. This thread is actually pretty cool. Like an, idk, Aftermath in which everyone claps others on their backs for being awesome.

I've not had much time so I have only really listened to the noes that were recorded of mine, but I'd definitely want to rec the reading [livejournal.com profile] leviticus_lied did of my Battlestar Galactica story 'Gladness and Gaiety' - it's amazing.
