Just a random sampling of some podfic I've listened to recently and loved.
This Tornado Loves You performed by
prophetic, Bandom, Frank/Gerard, ~5.5hrs, NC17
prophetic is new to podficcing, but you would never guess that by the quality of this podfic. It's a great story, and she manages to convey all of the difficult and complex emotional nuances with her performance, and her musical choices were amazing.
Public Enemy performed by
rhea314, Bandom, Frank/Gerard, ~2.5hrs, NC17
rhea314 is skilled at drawing out the characters with her vocal performance, and I loved the bit of playfulness she managed to infuse into her rendition of Gerard. She voices Frank's hesitance and uncertainty perfectly, and her musical choices were inspired.
On Air performed by
argentumlupine, Bandom, Frank/Mikey, ~2.5hr, PG13
I pretty much love everything that
argentumlupine does and this podfic is no exception. Her Frank and Mikey voices are so distinctive that it's always a joy to listen to her voice them, and when she was performing this, all I could see in my head was the Kevin Smith podcast, except with Frank playing the part of Kevin Smith. This podfic couldn't have been more perfect.
Chase performed by
kalakirya, The Eagle/Tale of the Five, Gen, ~3min, G
The Door Into Britannia performed by
kalakirya, The Eagle/Tale of the Five, ~1hr, Marcus/Cottia, Marcus/Cottia/Esca, PG13
I know nothing about The Eagle, but I
know the Tale of the Five, which is much beloved to me, and was delighted when
kalakirya pointed me in the direction of these two podfics. She does a marvellous job of building the tension as Marcus, Cottia and Esca dance around each other, goaded by Sunspark into speaking more truth than any of them were comfortable with. Her voice is clear and easy to listen to, and she builds an intimacy with the listener as the story unfolds.
the streets ran red performed by
reena_jenkins, Greek mythology, ~8min, gen, PG13
reena_jenkins is my go-to podficcer for not!fics, but in this story, she shows that she's capable of so much more. This is a lovely, bittersweet story, and what I really enjoy about it is the very measured way that
reena_jenkins speaks; the pacing for this is exquisitely timed and perfect and
reena_jenkins uses a wonderfully dramatic tone to create a top-notch performance.
In Production performed by
pennyplainknits, Bandom, ~6.5hrs, Gerard/Brian, Pete/Patrick, NC17
pennyplainknits is extremely talented, and in this multicharacter, complex podfic, it's obvious why. A hallmark of Penny's performance is that she infuses her podfic with the love she has for the story, and this podfic no different. The story is a chaotic tumble of characters and events, and Penny guides you through it was a clear, calm and lovely voice.
this little hand (in yours) performed by
elaineofshalott, MacBeth, MacBeth/Lady MacBeth, ~7min, R
This is a subtle little podfic, and
elaineofshalott's performance shines, bringing to life Lady MacBeth and the ghosts that haunt her. MacBeth is probably my favorite Shakespeare play, and
elaineofshalott reminds me why I love the story so much.
Sceneverse performed by
accrues, Bandom, Frank/Grant (/Gerard), ~3.5hrs, NC17
accrues is another recent addition to the podfic communitity. Her voice is warm and accented, and she's skilled at building the emotional tension with her well paced performances. Also, she's very talented at creating covers for podfics.
The Creepy Cave performed by
shiningartifact, Teen Wolf, Stiles/Derek, ~29min, NC17
I love
shiningartifact's voice, and Teen Wolf is totally not my fandom, but tentacles! And a sea monster named Frank. I couldn't resist, and I was well rewarded.
shiningartifact has a sweet, sultry voice and I love the way she voices Stiles and his awkward teenage self. And the porn. Can't forget about the porn.
