Your Stance Is the Foundation cover final - art credit to tarantinofincher
(Cover created by regonym; credit for the lovely original art goes to tarantinofincher)

Summary: Fitting together isn't something that just happens. Sometimes, you have to work for it.
(Moments in the life of Clint Barton and Phil Coulson. Each chapter is a stand-alone.)

This fic is Part 2 of the Mindset 'verse, where Clint has OCD. I've recorded Part 1 of the series, 'Anchor and Hold', here.

Feedback is always hugely appreciated! I probably wouldn't have thought to continue recording the series (I'm easily distracted by shiny objects) if I hadn't had so many kind requests to keep going. <3

Lately I've had good reason to try and keep myself distracted from my own thoughts. Podfic is an excellent way of keeping my thoughts occupied while doing... well whatever it is that I need to be doing at the time. The thing is though, that the more I need to distract myself from something, the worse my ability concentrate seems to get. I need something truly riveting to keep my attention. Listening to new podfic, is always a bit of a gamble there, since you can't be sure of what you're getting. Under normal circumstances I rarely re-listen to podfics, but recently I've found myself going back to some of my favourites, as I know that they'll definitely keep my attention from wandering.

So, I'm going to be reccing some of the podfics that have gotten quite a few listens in the past month or so, as well as some of the new podfics I've dared to listen to and that have done more than admirable job of helping me not think of things. (I'm sorry if some of these have been recced already, I really haven't had the opportunity to look through the other posts yet.)

I mainly listen to podfic in my car, so the stories that jumped out at me as must-rec are ones that had me taking the long way home, driving around the block a couple extra times, or just plain sitting in the driveway for an extra five... ten... ok, fifteen minutes.

I also *may* have over-estimated my ability to put this together coherently, so please, please, please forgive the sentence fragments and general scattered-ness of my thoughts on these.

This is my first time participating here. I hope I don't do anything wrong. I just now noticed that I'm supposed to rec podfics that are new since last year. I am going to stick to my original list because I think most of them are new since last year, but a few of them are older. I really hope that's ok.

So, most of these are Merlin stories with two exceptions.[personal profile] lunchee  is far and away my favorite podficc'er. If she ever recorded the phone book, I would listen. I will start with those she recorded that are not Merlin stories. (Sorry this is not behind a cut. I couldn't get it to work:P)

Holmes vs Harkness written by [archiveofourown.org profile] coinin and read by[personal profile] lunchee

I know Holmes vs Harkness was already recommended, but it really is that good. The story is good and[personal profile] lunchee
adds so much with her voice. She really nails both Mycroft and Jack and the story is hilarious.

Place That Don’t Know My Name by [archiveofourown.org profile] anti-estarantistar-e.  Read by lunchee.

Pairing Pendragon/Merlin written by anon; read by [personal profile] lunchee

I saw that someone recc'd this one already, but it really is that good. [personal profile] lunchee  does great sound effects in this one and the story does a really good job of poking fun at fandom without deriding fans for their passion.

Intended by [archiveofourown.org profile] new_kate  read by [personal profile] lunchee

I was actually a little wary of this story because it's a teacher/student romance, but I trusted [personal profile] lunchee  and it totally paid off. The story doesn't take itself too seriously and [personal profile] lunchee  has a way of reading that brings the humor to the front, so even as poor Arthur is in the depths of depression, I'm peeing my pants because he's also being sooo ridiculous.

Listen, Learn (written by anon, recorded by [personal profile] sophinisba )

[personal profile] sophinisba  = sophisticated to me. She has a sultry voice and her choice of stories to podfic is always thought provoking. Listen, Learn is about 20 minutes long and everyone should listen to it. You really don't need to know Merlin to appreciate this story. Merlin is blind and Arthur is the reader. This one is probably worth listening to twenty times. It has so many layers and will have you thinking long after it ends.

The Trouble with Witches written by [personal profile] netgirl_y2k  and read by [livejournal.com profile] quintenttsy (aka [personal profile] leish )

This is a little story that is just awesome. It's got a new character from S4 and Morgana and I had a huge smile on my face by the time I finished listening to it. It has a bit of a somber tone to it that [personal profile] leish nails and yet, I was smiling and practically dancing at the end along with her.

The Student Prince written and read by [archiveofourown.org profile] fayjay aka [personal profile] pandarus .

I came to The Student Prince late. Like years late. I came to fandom and podfic late. TSP is an amazing story and I never would have made it through a story this long if it hadn't been recorded. But hurray, it was! Fayjay reads like a boss and her world building is phenomenal. It's a wonderful story and you should just listen to it.

Drastically Redefining Protocol written by [archiveofourown.org profile] rageprufrock read by [personal profile] lunchee
This was the first podfic I ever listened to, back in February, and it blew my socks off. I listened to it again shortly after, somewhat afraid to venture forward. DRP is funny and sexy and cute. I love how she does Merlin's voice in this one.
[archiveofourown.org profile] anti-estar
(I can't get the middle of this post to work, but Places That Don't Know My Name is a DW/Social Network crossover and it's a wonderful story.  I am not in either fandom (but somewhat familiar with them) and it was that good.)

These are the standouts for me, since I started listening to podfic in February.  I hope that those of you not familiar with Merlin fandom will be encouraged to dip your toes in with some of these.  I'm sorry if this is a bit disjointed. I am on vacation and the browser crashed on me half way through.

oh god. it's still the 21st somewhere in the world, right??

Introduction:

(Podfic is a way for me to listen to stories I might never read myself, through the emotional lens of a reader who really cares for it. I enjoy this experience thoroughly. All my recs are podfics of stories I have never read [+1 that I have], sometimes in fandoms I'm not in, sometimes in things I have not even seen.

I have done a podcast for each rec, where I flail about about how much about how much I like it and why, and also include little clips of each podfic, which you can stream directly, download individually, or download the whole lot in m4b format. Enjoy!)

8 + 1 recs )

Download all the podcast recs in one m4b (30MB, 1hr).

Thanks for listening!
