Fic info: Avengers, Loki/Thor, Steve/Tony, Mature.
Length: 0:38:50

Tony Stark says very important things all the time but no one ever takes him seriously, not even when they really should. So when Tony says he's going to buy an island, sure, no one listens to him because apparently they think that kind of "hyperbole" doesn't need a response. The thing is though, Tony Stark actually can buy an island so he does and now the Avengers have an island that they can use as needed. Do they ever thank him for it? No. They don't even treat it as a learning experience for the next time he says something a little off beat but definitely right.

So when Tony Stark says, "You know what Loki really needs is a Xanax," everyone except Steve ignores him.

"Tony!" Steve says. If he had pearls, he'd be clutching them. "He is actually trying to destroy the world."

"That's what I'm saying," Tony says as he loads a vial filled with green liquid into one of his wrist-guard missiles. "Does that sound like the action of a calm, rational, non-neurotic person to you?"

Steve is sure the guy working the morning rush at Starbucks is Bucky. Unfortunately, the guy doesn't seem to know that.

With thanks to [personal profile] musesfool for giving blanket permission to podfic.

Also, as a fairly new podficcer, I'd love any feedback or advice anyone has to offer.

I am one of those people who cannot listen to podfic and do other stuff at the same time, and sometimes I struggle to find time to listen to podfic. This, for obvious reasons, makes me sad. So for me, short podfic is brilliant. Ten, or fifteen, or twenty minutes from when I start, I can have listened to an entire story. Chances are I’ve heard a great story read by a great performer, plus I get to feel all accomplished, like I’ve actually done something. (I feel sure that other people also have to-listen lists that are quite long: listening to lots of short podfic makes me feel like I am making a dent.) Short podfics make excellent samplers of readers and fandoms, too. I usually listen to short podfic right before bed and a good performer helps me unwind (even if the story they’re reading isn’t a particularly relaxing one). And short podfic is awesome for re-listens, especially comfort re-listens: they can totally be quick pick-me-ups.

To share the short podfic love, for Amplirecathon 2012 I’m reccing ten podfics less than ten minutes. (This was HARD. There is so much good short podfic out there, and so many amazing anthologies chock full of short podfic. I had to leave off a lot of stuff equally rec-worthy.)

For my rec post here on Amplirecathon today, I am highlighting three podfic artists recording actively in the Avengers fandom who are new(ish) and/or haven’t yet gotten the attention I feel they deserve. All three record in other fandoms, as well, which I will list in their individual recs.

These three podficcers are doing some really incredible work, and yet a glance at their ao3 kudos or LJ comments suggests that not many people know it (or, at least, aren’t communicating that they know it, which we know happens a lot amongst podfic listeners). All three are excellent in overlapping but different ways, and I am drawn to each of them for different reasons.

Head below the cut to see who they are, and to read why I find them compelling. )

Fandom: Avengers (gen - Steve + Tony)
Rating: PG-13-ish(?)
Warnings: Potential triggery content regarding depression
Length: 27:04

Summary: Written in response to an avengerkink prompt that requested Steve dealing with depression over his lost time and having a bout of breaking down.

Reader Note: Kinda nervous on this one, so some fair warnings. It's an "Anonymous" fic with no official approval from the author, and it's debatable whether I've waited long enough since asking permission. (Author-Anon, if you see this before my comment on your story, please do contact me. This is intended as an act of love for your work, not to step on toes.) I also recorded this on the tail end of a crying jag, since hey! perfect time to do that "Read Sadly" bingo square! I'll probably be cringing at how OTT it gets five seconds after posting. I'm also leaving it with the bare minimum of editing, since I think my usual nitpicky editing process would defeat the "trying new things" aspect of the bingo. So, more breath noises and whiny cats in the background than average, and likely sub-par effort at character voices. :P Oh, and the Reader Notes are overly verbose, to boot. Sorry. :P
