Werewolf Recs (part 1)

Werewolf recs!!! With the recent popularity of Teen Wolf fandom Werewolf podfic has become much more frequent \o/ But, overall, this year has been particularly awesome for werewolf podfic.



Teen Wolf:

Open the Door by renay read by fire_juggler - Derek/Stiles - 2 hr 44 min.
Summary: Derek gives Stiles his jacket.

fire_juggler captures the humour of this fic SO well, bringing such amazing life to Stiles character and I could not keep the smile off my face as I listened. Stiles is a teenager, with seemingly endless amounts of energy, but is self-consciously ridiculous and this comes through brilliantly.

This podfic is great fun, and fire_juggler's pacing is excellent!


Adore To See Your Eyes Fly by 1001cranes read by dodificus - Derek/Stiles - 1 hr 25 min.
Summary: stiles is a pyromaniac, derek is a sociopath. a match made in some kind of heaven. teen wolf kink meme fill.

I love how AMAZINGLY well dodificus captures Derek's creepy, distinctly unhinged narrative voice. He's disturbed, but his voice is infused with a reserved control, which is so spot on Derek for me and makes the story feel that much more complex and interesting.

dodificus delivers lines like, 'He tries not to be bitter. He's going to have at least the next sixty, after all', with such a carefree tone that Derek's character becomes that much more haunting. As if, he's crazy, but it's conscious and dangerous, and he likes it that way.

This was the first Teen Wolf podfic posted to amplificathon and completely got me completely addicted.


Bandom:

Run by mrsronweasly read by argentumlupine - MCR - Frank/Gerard - 5 hrs 57 min.
Summary: Being a secret teenage werewolf is hard. Frank should know. He is one.

SO GOOD! 'Secret teenage werewolf'!FRANK is such a brilliant listening experience. From the very beginning of the podfic argentumlupine's amazing character voices, and excellent sense of timing draw you in and refuse to let you go. I found this podfic almost impossible to pause.

argentumlupine is earning a deserved reputation for the great character voices in all her podfics. They are consistent and always interesting. The amount of attention that goes into the minor characters voices is exceptional, which always makes me feel as if argentumlupine has poured her heart and soul into every aspect of the fic.

What makes Run stand out to me, as a must listen to podfic, is that even the narrative feels infused with character and energy. It's distinctly from Frank's point of view, and I never feel like I can forget that.



I Was Your Silver Lining byshoemaster and theopteryx read by isweedan - MCR - Frank/Gerard - 7 hrs
Summary:"So what do you do?" "I wait." "You wait? Like, what, tables?" "I wait for you."
Werewolves, Gypsy magic, soul mates, reincarnation and Gerard being a creeper.

What really strikes me about isweedan's reading, is the emotional range of the podfic. The story has two distinct point of views, but also contains letters and flash backs, but somehow isweedan keeps the narrative consistent and commits to every distinct tone in a way that feels authentic and dynamic. I felt drawn into every emotional arc, regardless of point of view.


Seriously, Tom is not a werewolf by lalejandra read by quintenttsy - Empires - gen - 6 min
Summary: Five times someone thought Tom was a werewolf.

P.S. Tom is totally a werewolf. Author's note on the story 'Obviously this is fiction, since everyone knows Tom is a werewolf. (Can I tag this "Alternate Universe - Human"? Haha.)'

A cute, short podfic, that is ridiculously charming! quintenttsy reading is full of energy, and will make me laugh at a moments notice. TOM!!! He's so adorable and NO ONE UNDERSTANDS HIS PAIN! Brendon and Spencer conspiring to put silver flakes in Tom's coffee! \o/


Werewolf Roleplay by lalejandra, read by reena_jenkins - Ryan Ross/Spencer Smith/Brendon Urie - 12 min.
Summary: "Ryan and I are werewolves sometimes," Spencer explains.

Sometimes being a werewolf would make life so much easier \o/

Such a brilliant podfic! I love how reena_jenkins captures the style of not!fic/twitter fic. Spencer is divine, his self-doubt and strength come though really well - Spencer would make an awesome alpha, seriously. They all NEED each other so much! They're PACK! <33333

Supernatural RPF:

In the Company of Wolves by insane_songbird read by takola - Jensen/Jared - 3 hrs 56 min.
Summary: A war as old as time… A warrior with great honor and a young Alpha on his way to become a leader… With no love lost between wolf and man, will they be able to unite their strength for peace between their people? For you never know whom you can trust… in the company of wolves.

This podfic is SO enchanting. From the very beginning, the tension between humans and wolves is well grounded, and takola weaves the story and manages to keep that tension consistent. I listened to this in one go and I am so glad that I did. The strong narrative refused to let me go.

Harry Potter:

Stealing Harry by sam_storyteller, read by revolutionaryjo - Remus/Sirius - 9 hrs 24 min.
Summary: AU, in which Sirius and Remus have had quite enough of the way the Dursleys have been treating young Harry

So, this one was not released this year, but I had to include it on my list.

revolutionaryjo has an amazing way of telling great stories with beautiful undercurrents of emotion. A lot goes on in this story, but the reading never fails to hit my emotional buttons. It breaks my heart in places, and I absolutely love it to pieces.

I have a really bad migraine, so I am making this post a part 1 of 2 :D

I hope you all enjoy these werewolf podfics as much as I did!

I think I'm going to try the Frank/Gerard one 'Run', Bandom is one of those fandoms that I mainly engage with through podfic, so recs are an awesome way to know if I'm going to like the story:)

'Run' is DEFINITELY worth your time! Bandom is a great podfic fandom to engage with at the moment, the variety of voices and pairings represented are really enjoyable.
