Actually, while I've got a captive audience...how do you count points for a fic where a past relationship gets significant mention in the story (in fact, it plays a large role in the who and why of Character X's current relationship), but, y'know, Character X and Past Lover aren't together during the fic's current timeframe? Or does only the couple that's currently getting it on get points?

ahhhh this is a hard one! honestly, it's going to depend on the particular fic. which is not helpful, really, so i'm going to say that if the past relationship gets screen time (like, say, if there are flashbacks, or if the characters engage with each other in a way that is significantly, er, relationshippy), then yes.

if it's only mentions of the past relationship, or descriptions of emotions surrounding the past relationship, but there isn't anything actually in the story that you could point to and say 'look there is x/y!', then i'm going to say no.

The bit where they're comparing how long it took for them to take command/keep that command, right? And then how Teyla's there to help Joan come to her epiphany about what she wants to be, when it comes to being in charge of Atlantis? And possibly the scene where Teyla's trying to talk Joan down from shooting every nurse in sight....and you just want to be all, "Yay, for girls in positions of authority!"

It's okay, you're not doing it that wrong.... ;-)
