(Or, The Wierdness That Is My Mind Loves Repeating Tropes & Happy Endings)
Comfort podfics are for those times I need to turn off my mind with favorite loves. Or, they are for those times I am in a specific mood and crave a particular trope in a particular fandom. I am, as with so many other areas of life, very wide ranging in my appreciations. :)

This is my perfect cup of hot chocolate. I know with no doubt, that Happily Ever After! is coming, and that Innocent Seduced! is happening, all in Astolat's inimitable style. Rhea314 has a wonderful voice for this, an almost breathless Valley Girl rendition of Archie's inexperience. She speaks in a saunter. I love the scorn her Clive voice can ladle into his comments, and I love the warmth of Cook's voice. Love, love, love.
The story itself is an AU mix of magick users x AI x a well tweaked Mormon culure. Ever so gently, she convinces us that of course a Regency style, gay friendly Mormon magick culture exists- somewhere.

This has so many romantic comedy tropes that it is overfull-sort of like a PB & J sandwich with the extra J that squishes out the sides. First Time!!Drunken Innocent! Married While Under The Influence! Once Forgotten Sex That Soon Is Remembered In All Burning Detail! Living Platonically, In Marriage To Fool The Press! Falling In Love With My Husband! And-about 6 more that I am not going to name because it will totally spoil the story. Angst! Reconcilliation! Happily Ever After!
I do not know what in my fannish mind makes me love the repeating and twisting cliche ladened podfics, but I am claiming it as a a kink. Celli delivers so very well to that specific kink and Nieliegen has a particular delivery that adds to the fun.At first listen, her whispery, words tumbling over each other delivery might seem off putting, but it combines excellently with the story to convey An Innocent In The Big City! I'm talkin' PB & J with crunchy PB and extra jelly goodness to lick off your hands, here.

Really, read by FayJay ought to be one of my comfort catagories, there are just so many podfics that qualify. Here, she immediately whisks me the first time into an AU of a fantastic urban magic realm I didn't recognize, of a band I didnt know, and makes me care on the first sentence. I can be in awe, both of JJ Taylor's writing and FayJay's delivery which is so
perfect in rendition that each time through the story I pick up more favorite bits. I have to also mention that her musical cues are brilliant, never overwhelming even when she tucks in a short burst of loud music as it seldom kills the eardrums and diminishes
promptly after setting the mood.
This podfic is hilarious. It's exactly what I go to if I want a lively, fantastical story to distract me, as it cures the funks without exception.

This is a splendid, warm story lashed about with heaps of angst and pining. It is a kidfic trope of Orphans Rescued! Teenage Angst! that still has very intelligent explorations of how difficult it is to do the right thing well, and how hard it is to accept help.
New parenthood, teenage angst (cannot be repeated too many times as a theme), critique of social work and public and private schools, combine together with a kick-ass story for an engrossing drama. KLB's voice is at once urgent and clear, with deliberate escalations of emotional stress, combined with otherwise deliberate, casually calm recitations of terrible circumstances to be a gripping and terrific way to spend a long day caught in a story.

This story is full of fanfic tropes of sexual coercion: Sex auction! Sex Pollen! (or, sex drugs from pollen), plus Regency romance tropes: In Love With My Guardian! Repression! Angst Galore!- a very yummy podfic of tart sweetness, sort of like gummy bears. Twilight's voice is singular, with a crisp popped diction and a great emotional range- I can hear the relish she has in pronouncing each word of this fic. And of course-Happily Ever After!

(Sigh-mods have pity- I swear I almost had this corrected to be able to post on the appointed day. I am a lurker of the first water, and this represents my first posting to a community and the first attempt at the very basic html required. I am accomplished!! I am also--late)

I was gonna use tags, I swear-but LJ wouldn't respond with the community tags when I poked the button, and wouldn't accept my version either- anyone have an idea why? Thanks.

I haven't heard of this happening before. You should be able to highlight the tag(s) you want to use in the drop down menu: i.e. click on your post title (after posting), click on the edit tags icon at the top right, then click to highlight the tag you want. For more than one tag, alt-click for PC or command-click for Mac to keep adding more tags.

If you try to type in a tag that doesn't exist for the comm, though, it won't be accepted since only a mod can add a new one.

Anyway, I've added the amplirecathon:2011 tag to your posts. :-)
