Ugh, sorry, it looks like Mediafire has been lying to me again and only giving me parts of files. :/ I'll re-download/upload.

Downloading. I'm not really into either fandom, and I've found out that listening to podfic is a good way of checking it out. Plus -- podfic! I've been trying to work out how to be better at giving feedback and it occurred to me that if I made a downloading comment, then I could go back on my comment page and find where I snagged it from a whole lot easier.

so thanks a bunch,

Laurie

::pinches self:: Ow!

Yep, I'm a real girl.

I prefer to explore new fandoms with podfic. It's how I got hooked on Supernatural, and Due South, and Merlin, and became interested in Deep Space Nine's Doctor Bashir and Garak's epic love (sometime I'm going to watch the shows and see those hints of slash for myself), and Jeeves and Bertie, and bunches of other ones.

I really liked what you guys did with this story, and I'm thrilled to read that you're going to do the other parts because OMG, poor little Kris! Technical stuff was excellent, you all read very well and I was totally engrossed.

There were two things that I wondered about in the story itself (SPOILERS FOR BOOK ONE) But that's really for the author.

I wondered why they didn't do a test on Kris' hands to see if he'd fired the gun,not just picked it up, and I think the author was a little confused about the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist. But a lot of people are. The emotions were well done in the story, and I thought the prison life was pretty true to real life. I liked the story a lot, and I want to know what happens to these guys.

You should be proud, all of you did an excellent job.

And my comment system worked pretty easily.

Author here. :)

Glad you're enjoying the story. As far as I know I'm not confused about the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist. I've been to enough of them, plus nearly minored in it in college. :) Did the doctor in this do something that made you think she was the other kind? From my understanding the only difference is that psychiatrists can prescribe medicine and the other can't.

As for the gun thing, I checked with some experts as I was writing the story and learned that if Kris had picked up the gun immediately after it was fired, there was a chance it would have residue on it that could get on him. I wrote this almost a year ago and I can't really remember why I chose not to include that in the text, but I always figured that all relevant tests had been done in the time between Kris getting picked up and Gibbs coming to talk to him.

I am enjoying the story and I'm going to wait for the podfic crew to do the next arc because I really like listening to podfics.

What I remember is that the psychologist who did the competency assessment on Kris was referred to earlier as being a psychiatrist. I'm more familiar with psycholgists doing those. You are absolutely right about the difference between them.

So if there was residue on Kris' hands then it could have been from him firing the gun or leftover from somebody else doing it. I was thinking that it would show one way or the other, but the poor boy is screwed, isn't he? I hope Abby can come up with some whiz kid evidence or Gibbs and the rest of the guys find the other two sailors and get the truth. But then, maybe Kris did do it because you've got it beautifully vague and totally understandable if he did, traumatized as he was.

Man, you might have him in prison for years. I think I'm a little traumatized too, in a very engrossing and good angsty way.

I just checked the text. Looks like you caught a textual error. In the scene with Kris and Sarver, Kris says, "My lawyer wants me to see a psychologist." Then in the narrative for the next scene, it says "psychiatrist's office". I meant for it to be psychologist. :( But, since things can't be changed now, I'm going to say that the DC system is simply fortunate to have a psychiatrist on staff and Kris was unaware of her status! LOL

There may need to be a support group for people traumatized by this fic. I hear that a lot... :)

This made me smile :)

(Not because I want you to be sad. But, you know, the thought that the reading conveyed the emotion of the story convincingly. If I managed that, I'm very pleased.)
