[identity profile] rymrytr.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] amplificathon

This my seem unamerican, but I don't watch TV if I can avoid it. :o)

Therefore, I don't know what most of these Fan Fics are about. I've never watched Sentinal or the one about Vampires, etc. On top of that, I see this this Community is not only Fan Fic, but Sexual Pairings.

What I'm looking for is any other community that has this great idea of Audio posting? A place for general fiction.

I'm not saying the things here are not worth reading; to the contrary, I've enjoyed listening to Bunny reading the Raffels stories!

Thanks for your help an input.

So,

You can browse for general (non-pairing) podfic by fandom here (http://audiofic.jinjurly.com/browse-gen-categories) at the audiofic archive. I don't know if there is an LJ community devoted to non-pairing podfic, or even one for non-television-based podfic, but maybe someone else will have a suggestion in that area.

The community isn't just for "sexual pairings". Plenty of non-pairing fanfiction I've written has been turned into podfic form over here...

If your interested in free audiobooks of published books, that aren't under copy right anymore, you could check out LibriVox (http://librivox.org/). There you can find audiobooks read by volunteers in various genres and languages.

There are podfics in the community based on novels, too. I don't think there's a tag for book-based podfic, but they are all tagged by fandom, so you could look through the fandom: tags for novels you know (fandom:narnia for example).

You don't watch tv... and I deliberately choose fandoms I'm unfamiliar with. I like the authors that can wrap me up in their world when I have absolutely no clue what's going on. Hence my appreciation for the nine hour audio fics. If it takes nine hours to read, they've probably spent quite a bit of time getting you involved in their universe, developing the characters and storyline and whatnot. At jinjurly's website you can browse fics by length. And if someone else has bothered to record something that's nine hours long, that's a pretty good recommendation for that fic. Just saw a new one posted, so I'm off to see if I like the reader.

I've never seen an audiofic archive for original fic, aside from those for published works that can be accessed through local libraries or through sites like librivox. If you find any, please let me know.

On that note, when I read in fandoms I'm unfamiliar with, I find that starting with AUs (especially ones that are two hours or more long) are good. :)
