SUMMARY: The calling card said Tristan Jarrett, Viscount Penrith. Beneath that, in a lazy scrawl, was the addendum Mr Acklebury, be so good as to wait on me tomorrow, number 10, Half Moon Street. Yours, &c., Penrith. Mr Acklebury was not sure how he felt about being thus summarily commanded to paint his lordship's portrait.
READER'S NOTE: Restraint is a WIP, spanning some forty chapters in total, divided into four sections. It is being released in podfic format one section at a time. The second section should be completed and uploaded within the week, insh'allah.
Most sincere apologies to the peoples of Italy, France and Ireland for my mutilation of their respective languages and accents.
Vast, vast thanks once more to the fair Cybel, for her marvellous tech skills and archiving-fu.

AHHHHHHH - delicious Restraint!!!
Date: 2010-04-04 05:54 am (UTC)As I told Emerald herself, I cannot imagine a more appropriate reader for this fic than you - Bing Crosby/White Christmas.....Elvis/Hound Dog.....The Beatles/I Wanna Hold Your Hand.....Fayjay/Restraint
Wonderful!!!! Unforgettable!!!! A new favorite upon which to wear out my poor battered Zen V.....
It's been quite the banner week for your podfics - I have had the week from hell - the first "month end" in my new position as newly invaluable person that can process hideously overdue things quickly and accurately.
"Queensguard"...re-visiting "Defenders of the Realm"...enjoying anew "The Incestuous Courtship of the Anti-Christ and his Bride" You have helped me through many trying hours of exhausting and draining work. Indeed, you have received more of my attention than my husband, the Hot Scot and my darling still-at-home children, the Snarky Teenaged Daughter and the Boy with No Impulse Control, combined.
Dare I confess, my dear Fay, that I have refreshed your tag at amplificathon in vain more than once just today, praying that Part 2 is available to be snatched up? And AO3 has received equally assiduous attention as I refresh Emerald's post for Restraint, praying that I might see 30/40 instead of 29/40.
How you both torment me!!!!!!
Now, if I can throw off the Regency language affectation long enough to pass the Easter holiday with my dear family, it will be a miracle to rival the Resurrection....

Date: 2010-04-04 10:03 am (UTC)Aww, yay! I'm delighted that you enjoyed it, love! In a flaily sheepish kind of way!
I must admit that I don't anticipate completing Part 2 for several days, though - I've recorded about half of it so far. Um. It should certainly be finished within the week, but not by the end of the weekend, I'm afraid.

Date: 2010-08-07 01:41 am (UTC)This is the first audiofic that I listen to, and oh my, that was an experience indeed! Your voice, the way you made Tristan and John came alive - absolutely amazing. Though I have to say that driving in a dream-like and err, half-aroused, state may not be a very wise thing to do lol, but fortunately I didn't drive the car into a ditch or anything like that heheh.
THANK YOU!

Date: 2010-08-07 08:16 am (UTC)Oh, man, what a terrific story to pop your audiofic cherry! Really, I &hearts 'Restraint' beyond the telling of it - it's far and away the best piece of fanfiction I've read in years, if not ever, and I have to say that as a performer, it's like a gift; it's like being allowed to do the first ever performance of "Pride and Prejudice", ffs. So much fun, getting to read that lovely prose and to act all these different characters. It is, as you'll gather, absolutely a labour of love - I'm delighted you're enjoying it so!

Date: 2010-08-12 01:39 pm (UTC)I've just finished listening to part 3 of this and simply HAD TO come tell you how wonderful your reading is immediately. (Which is a rather rare urge, for I am a terrible lurker usually.) I've listened to quite a number of your audiofics and enjoyed all of them very much, but I really think you've outdone yourself on this one. Seriously, you could be doing this stuff for a living. The way you bring all the different characters to life and always find the perfectly right tone for every scene is amazing. I'm also loving your choice of music to accompany each part.
The terrible sadness of that last chapter made me cry (also a rare occurrence with fanfic) and left me very anxious for the next/last(?) part of the story. Will John and Tristan find happiness together? I dearly hope so, though I admittedly can't really see a happy ending at the moment. *must go check if darkemeralds has written more asap*
On a cheerier note, I listened to parts 1&2 while on a recent trip to London, which made both the story and my stay in that great city even more enjoyable. It was very amusing to imagine our heroes gallopping across the grounds while I was strolling through Hyde Park and I was pleasantly surprised to find that 10 Half Moon Street is a real address in Mayfair. I even took a picture of the street - yes, I am that much of a geek, photographing places where fictional characters live... :)
In conclusion: THANK YOU so much for doing this and I'm eagerly awaiting the next part. *sends you virtual love and cookies*

Honestly, I know it's a pain in the neck to come and give feedback for podfic, but it always makes me do the happydance - thanks so much for taking the time! I'm delighted that you're enjoying it so - I have to say, it's been an unalloyed joy to get to make this podfic; not only is it a gorgeous, gorgeous story with luscious prose and beautifully rounded characters, not only does it take you on an emotional rollercoaster, but also (glee!) it's set in Britain, so it's one of those instances where I don't feel miserably self-conscious about my accent, and can instead have a decent stab at doing most of the voices. It's like a gift, it really is, and I'm absolutely adoring it.
(And I share your sense of !!!???!!! stress over the fates of John and Tristan - because, poor wee scones, it's going to be Very Bloody Hard for them to wring any kind of happy ending out of this, isn't it? Poor bunnies. I do worry.)
::smishes them::
(Oh! I should add - all credit for the music goes to the lovely DarkEmeralds, who already knew exactly what music she wanted for each musical break. She is far more knowledgeable about classical music than I.)
Seriously - thanks ever so much for making the time to come & comment. It's a lovely lovely thing, getting feedback for podfics, and knowing that somebody has been sharing the story with you as they wander around in the real world - all the more marvellous that you got to listen to it whilst you were in Hyde Park! That's FABULOUS!

Date: 2010-08-25 01:14 am (UTC)I must admit, 'Restraint' is hands-down my favourite podficcing experience, bar none. It's such a gift to get to play such an array of roles, with real emotional depth as well as the humour, and the prose itself is just scrumptious. I feel kind of incredulous at my good fortune - like getting to be the first person who makes an audiobook of 'Pride and Prejudice' or something. I'm delighted to get to share the love! (For, lo, I too am on fretful tenterhooks about the eventual fate of Our Heroes. I can't see how this one can end happily, but I'm still clinging on to hope...)

Date: 2011-11-15 03:06 am (UTC)You have always been -hands down- my favorite reader of podfic. I often wonder whether you are an actress by profession?? I love your Vampire Gerard, your Holmes/Watson, Someone You Might Have Been -- in essence, everything you read -- but this rendering of Restraint is beyond compare. I think this work is so sumptuous because of the terrible reserve of the period, and what can't be expressed, and the nuances you add to what IS being said are remarkable. I'm in love with your John Acklebury... Can I add to the other inquiries as to whether you plan to record the last part? I know it's a great undertaking, and I've noticed that you've not been posting anything, so perhaps you've gotten busy -- or just moved on from podficcing. But I do want to thank you for all of your contributions. You've provided many, many, MANY enjoyable hours.
