This was actually a really hard podfic to review. It's just so well done that I don't exactly know what to talk about. The one real piece of criticism that I think think of is that I would have liked just a hair longer pause in between the sentences. The fic comes off as just a bit rushed, not because it's actually being read quickly, but because it seems like the sentences are running together.
Gibbs and DiNozzo's voices were spot on and made it that much easier for me to imagine them in the situation described in the fic. Gibbs is wonderfully gruff and Tony is, well, Tony. I can never figure out a good way to describe him that really captures who he is, but this reading does a really good job of capturing his voice.
As far as I could hear, there aren't any obvious edits and the sound quality is wonderful. Actually, I'd really like to know how malnpudl accomplished it as it sounded like she was in a studio, rather than a living room or an office or wherever she was.
I don't know that the bad guys really had distinct voices, but I think that's more a function of the fic, where their role is mainly to set up the situation. They certainly didn't sound like Gibbs or Tony, so the fact that they all sounded like each other didn't really bother me.
Overall, this fic was excellently recorded and read.

Date: 2010-02-07 12:03 am (UTC)As for the quality, I'm tickled silly to hear that. I record late at night in my home office so that I don't have to worry about background noise, which helps. I found early on that a cheap microphone resulted in sound quality that I considered less than desirable, and it got a lot better once I spent $40 or so on a good mic. It made a significant difference, at least to my ear. Also I spend a lot of time in the editing phase -- always using good quality headphone or ear buds so I don't miss anything -- and am really nit-picky about editing out anything that distracts from a clean, clear reading. It's deeply gratifying to hear that it has paid off. :-)
