Like a lot of other posters, I started listening several years ago to podfic, and boy, did I fall hard. I think they're wonderful, and they've gotten me through miles and miles of walking, long commutes, and completing household projects. I don't fall asleep to them, though.

In the City of Seven Walls Series written by Auburn and read by General Jinjur. Mp3 and Audio book format on this page.

Long, long, long, and deliciously long saga of SGA's team facing extraordinary circumstances that changed each of them profoundly. I listened to General Jinjur's voice, smooth and honeyed, as I walked up and down my mile long gravel road at night, the winter stars absolutely brilliant above me. I would stop and listen and watch the stars and think of how stranded and isolated all the team members, but especially John and Rodney, felt since they were separated by the vast distances between stars. Heck, I would keep walking just to hear more of the story, even though I'd done my four or five miles for the day. General Jinjur totally entranced me with her reading, and has every time I've re-listened to it.

The Knuckles of Skinnybone Tree Mp3 and Audio book. Written by Written by Hansbekhart and
read by Dodificus.

I haven't seen a single episode of Supernatural, but Dodie's reading, careful and clean, and especially the way she used special effects made this eerie tale come alive for me. When the campfire crackled, I felt that I was there, too, waiting for something dangerous and deadly to come and get me. I tell you it made walking in the dark really spooky. I've enjoyed all of Dodie's readings, she's one of the gold standard podficcers.

Wings of Desire Mp3 and Audio book
Written by nos4a2no9 and read by zabira.

I can hear Zabira's voice in my head as I type this, the way she says,"Ray" and "Fraser" and I love her slow and deliberate style of reading and the emotions, especially wryness, that she conveys with her voice. I also had not seen a single episode of Due South, nor read any fanfiction before listening to her readings, but she is one of the main reasons that I ordered the DVDs for myself. In this poignant story, her voice carried me deep into the story and affected me intensely. There may have been crying. There are many other excellent Zabira podfics, some already recc'ed, and I have to say that I will listen to anything she chooses to read.

Lazarus Came Forth Mp3 and Audio book. Written by Oselle and read by Baylor.

Baylor added such depth to this excellent Supernatural story by the music choices that accompanied her reading. Now, I'm fully aware that a lot of listeners don't like music mixed in their podfics, for personal preference reasons or because it's hard to hear the reader over music, so this recording won't be to everyone's taste. That's okay. It made me feel overjoyed to listen to it. Her music selections made listening a sensual experience for me, sunk me deep into the story, and since I'm not in any hurry when I listen to podfic, the long selections of music just enhanced everything, in my opinion. Her voice was clear and warm, and while looking up the information for this post, I see she's posted a few more podfics, which I look forward to listening to.

Hawks and Hands Mp3 and Audio book. Written by Dira Sudis and read by Issaro.

Look up 'epic' and this podfic will be in the definition. Twenty-six and a half hours long, and I can tell you right now that I never would have read the story. But I love to listen to long podfics, so I jumped on this one. And Issaro made me care about hockey. Hockey! She read this AU Due South story slowly, deliberately, each scene building to the next and that includes a bunch of sex scenes. Even just typing this out makes me want to re-listen to it again.

FayJay's page at Audio Fic Archive

Fayjay has been recc'ed quite a bit, and with reason, as she does a marvelous job, she's brilliant with character voices, special effects, and her reading is clear and if she's ever made a mistake in the recording, it never registered with me. Being a fan of music with podfics, I've enjoyed her music choices, especially with the Merlin fandom podfics.

Whew!

And my reaction to listening to this incredible work of podfic was wonder at the story, and love for the way multiple voices added such depths of layers to it, but most of all, it made me realize that there was a community of podficcers out there, because these people had collaborated with each other in this labor of love and I actually got teary-eyed thinking about that. What? Didn't you?

I'm going to list their reader pages on Audio Fic Archive.

leviticus_lied She was very prolific during the first amplificathon challenge and her reading of Duende by Astolat was very enjoyable, besides the fact that she chooses interesting stories to podfic.

arrow00. Arrow00 is a talented writer, and podfic readers have chosen her stories to record, but I loved listening to her voice, experienced and deep, when she read Wind From the South by nos4a2no9. So, more please?

cybel. Most folks who follow this community are probably familiar with cybel's work of turning Mp3s into audiobooks, and making fantastic covers for those audiobooks, but I enjoyed listening to her recording of Tahiti mp3. Her voice has a kind of Peggy Lee quality, sort of a jazz-blues thing and I'd love to hear more recordings from her.

I'm leaving out a bunch of readers who I've enjoyed, but they've been recced in prior posts, so I'll just say "ditto."
