Short and Smutty Podfic Recs

Okay, first of all: like (it seems) a lot of people on here, I have mostly lurked, but that's true of most of my small amount of time on LJ the last year or so. I wanted to do this because I owe silly amounts of fb when I can string the words together, but hopefully the rec posts I'm making will help me work out what to say to show appreciation.


A couple of notes about my recs:

- I generally have to avoid sound effects (they don't go well with over-sensitivity to sound) and I'm cautious with ones that include music because sometimes the volume is very different for the music and the speech. If you're not familiar with any of the fics/readings in this post and the sound effects/music thing is an issue for you too, you can assume these don't include either unless I mention otherwise.
- I'm British, so it's possible that accents are less of an issue for me than if you're the same nationality as the characters in the fics.
- For the purposes of these posts, short means under an hour, and long is everything else.

Podfics listed in order of length. Links go to the entries on the archive so you can get more info there and find downloads. And apologies for the lack of variety in fandom and pairing here, but I promise the other post will be better on that score!


Sacramentum, by smallcaps, read by juice817, Supernatural (Sam/Dean, Dean/other)
Length: 23.27
The shortest one, and a genuine stand alone fic and podfic. juice817 is always a great, clear reader, and she has a wonderful voice to listen to, but this one deserves special mention because it's a great example of mixing a bit of humour in with the smut. There's a hint of sly wickedness that slowly builds up that works perfectly for Dean's voice here… and even better for Sam *g*.

Sine Qua Non, by dreamlittleyo, read by crinklysolution, Supernatural (Sam/Dean)
Length: 30.06
Another stand alone fic/podfic. There are a couple of things I particularly like about the fic, such as possessive!Sam putting his foot down with Dean's womanising ways, and Dean having just the tiniest little doubt that Sam might be fucking with him. The reading gets the tension of those moments across well, while remaining very natural throughout.

Phthonus in Lethe, by leonidaslion, read by juice817, Supernatural (Sam/Dean)
Length: 32.10
Part one of the Phthonus!verse. I'll keep it brief because breea1 has already recced this here, but it would still be a glaring omission from this list so I didn't replace it. Basically, it's juice817 again, doing a fine job of reading one of the most relentlessly smutty fics ever in the fandom. Her possessive!Sam is possibly the hottest thing you will ever listen to. Repeatedly.

Needful Things, by mona1347, read by nu_breed, Supernatural (Sam/Dean)
Length: 32.14
This is actually part 6 of the Light!verse, written by several authors and about 5 hours listening in total. While I highly recommend listening to all of it, this one stands alone perfectly well and is probably my favourite. I suspect I have a kink for drunk!Sam and/or desperate!Sam that contributes to that, and I do like the added angst that Dean's adultery brings to this fic, but I think the reading here is a big part of what makes it so compelling. There's so much emotion, so much need, it draws you in to the fucked up situation between Sam and Dean and doesn't let go.

Another stand alone fic/podfic. I usually enjoy sadcypress reading funny fics (and I'm so tempted to do a third post for that theme!) but I cheered when this one just squeaked in under the hour limit I set for this list. sadcypress has a lot of character in her voice, and she does a great job here of changing pace in appropriate places, and (as always) in bringing Dean's thoughts to life.


Short(ish!) smutty fics that really need to be podficced aka if Llama ever planned on having a firstborn she would probably hand it over for one of these:

I totally agree with you about Needful Things. It is almost embarassingly hot and kinda overwhelming. I love the whole series, but I sometimes go and listen to just that one.
