Hey, would you like me to compile a podbook when the time comes?

:-)

A podbook (fannish terminology for audiobook) is a sound file that adds more features to a basic mp3. It adds cover art, makes the mp3 automatically bookmarkable, and, for those with iTunes, moves it out of the Music folder and into a separate Audiobooks folder where it won't be seen or heard when browsing or listening to songs. It also then automatically shows up in an Audiobooks playlist on an iPod.

Some mp3 players are not able to play m4b files; others can. To get the added benefits of m4b's on your PC, even if you don't own an iPod or other m4b capable player, you can download Apple's free music software, iTunes, here. If you have a Mac, iTunes is already part of your system.

Not all podbooks that have been compiled by myself and others have been posted to the various LJ podficcing communities. If you wonder if a podbook version of your favorite podfic exists, check general_jinjur's Audiofic Archive under the reader or author tabs. A category for m4b files also exists and can be found here. If you don't find what you're looking for in the Archive, you can check with me; I've personally compiled almost 200 podbooks since last August and am working on more, both older podfics and newer ones, all the time.

Podbooks are not necessarily larger and may actually be smaller files than the original mp3s. The format is extremely compact (and, in fact, gains little from being zipped), and I normally compile at 64 kbps while many mp3s are recorded at 128 kbps and are therefore much larger files. Of course, if the 'book combines several parts into one whole, the file will necessarily be larger than the original bits downloaded separately.

Great! Podbooks are the way to go with really long podfics. :-)

Do you have a preference in cover art? I noticed a lot exists for this 'verse; I can ask the artist for permission to use the one you choose.

Coincidentally, I'm also the archive elf in charge of Supernatural, so I'll be uploading the files to the Archive as you go (as a WIP). I'll get you the archive URLs when they're ready.

Enjoyed chapters 4 and 5 as well, I can hear it getting better and better as it goes along...also, if anything, I think your accent adds to the reading...makes it more interesting!

I had a bit of a comment kerfuffle, but what I wanted to say was that I just listened to Ch 21, and your reading just keeps getting better and better. I think it is all about practice, myself, at least that has been my experience with podfic. I get better and better about hearing where it sounds false, or too quiet, or too loud, or whatever. Truthfully, I can't think of anything specific to improve upon, your pace is nicely relaxed and I can understand everything, but if you want me to keep an ear out, I will. I know how hard it is to get feedback on podfic!

WONDERFUL.

I love your reading it is very good with so much humor in your voice. I love how you voice Jared and Jensen's emotion in fic. Hope you finish. I listened to chapter up to prologue to 16 hope for more soon.
