I'm so glad you're opening up a letter to the reader thread (I was already trying to figure out how to do this from an flocked LJ :). Anyway, here's my more specific likes and dislikes. I'm not sure how specific this ought to get, but here's my first try...

Dear reader:

Thank you do much for doing this. I am pretty much omnivorous when it comes to genre and tropes, though I tend to stay on the slash side and prefer most central OTPs. So there's a pretty good chance whatever you read will be perfect! Here are a few more specific likes and dislikes that might help you narrow down a story (though short of 30K of curtain shopping or baby stories, I'm pretty much happy with anything).

I love crossovers, AUs, and fusions. I prefer heavily plotty fic over extended and repeated sex or a lot of inner musings and meditations. I like angsty fic but want happy endings. I adore cliched tropes like amnesia, slavefic, hookerfic, time travel, and any version of parallel universes/multiverses. My delicious recs only have J2 in any comprehensive order (and even those are hopelessly outdated), but that might give a sense of my taste.

I tend to prefer my SPN and J2 AU. In SV I mostly enjoy Clex futurefic and in XF I read all of the slash pairings though I like my Krycek alive :) In DA I actually seem to prefer Alec/Max except in SPN crossovers, where I'm just happy to have both fandoms together.

Thank-you, I'm really excited about participating in this podfic exchange, it's the first one I've done. I asked for just fics from the Merlin fandom originally, but I'm also very happy for any Adam/Kris from American Idol season 8 (I didn't know that fandom was eligible to start off with as it hasn't had a 'Big Bang' challenge.

Anyway. Basically, if it's Merlin, I'm pretty much in love with the Arthur/Merlin pairing, and most of the fics around are about that pairing so that should work out fine. I adore AUs, crossovers and 'fusion' stories as well as regular ones. One of my absolute favourite types of fic are 'first time' fics (as opposed to established relationships), where the UST builds up, there's a bit of angsty ups and downs, maybe a misunderstanding or two, before everything comes together. Like cathexys above I love a bit of angst and drama but do like a happy ending :D I also love really involved twisty plots. And hot fabulous sex - although if you'd rather do me a PG-13 one that's fine too :D

Kinks (these by no means have to be there but I love it if any of them are! frottage, bath/shower sex, tired cuddling, crossdressing (although I'm not so keen on them actually changing sex), rimming, jealous angsty quite rough sex, public sex, D/s, dubcon.

Squicks/dislikes - physical pain/S&M, noncon, chan/underage, mpreg, daddycest, character death, excessive sappiness, characters getting maimed in some way and 'rising above the challenge', uncalled-for bashing of other characters (especially women characters), characters contemplating or recovering from attempted suicide, characters planning a wedding etc.

First I want to say thank you! Thank you for volunteering to read a really long story, and for volunteering to read it for *me*....

I'm pretty open to most things, although I prefer slash over het and gen, and I am very, very squicked by incest. I adore AUs and fusions of all kinds, especially Harlequins and adaptations of romantic comedies, but a good canon-based story works just as well. I *love* RPS, but hate it when authors treat real girlfriends, wives and children badly to make the OTP happen.

KINKS: biting, kissing, May-December romances, the "unconventional" bottom (i.e. the military guy bottoming for the scientist), rough sex

I love AUs (including harlequin, all human/earth-side AUs) and Crossovers. I'm also very partial to schmoopy scenes (though not necessarily throughout the whole fic).

Kinks: Pretty much anything except bathroom play kind of stuff.

Hello my lovely reader! I'm super easy, so know that anything you record that YOU enjoy, I will love as well. But if you're like me, you probably are freaking out about this anyway and looking for some structure. :)

Here are some of my favorite pairings (of the moment):

Kirk/Spock, Sirius/Remus, Merlin/Arthur, Duo/Heero, Pine/Quinto, Doctor/Rose, Sheppard/McKay, Jack/Ianto, Fraser/RayK, Jack/Elizabeth/Will (OT3 or any combination thereof), Hardison/Parker/Eliot (OT3 or any combination thereof), Duncan/Methos

As you can see, I swing towards the m/m slash side of things, although I do also enjoy femslash, OT3s, and het quite a lot too. Gen isn't usually my first choice in fic, but if the characters ring true I can really love it too.

In terms of rating, I prefer EPIC-length fic to have an eventual payoff, but if you're not comfortable reading sex scenes don't force yourself. If there's an implied fade-to-black somewhere I will be happy. :)

On the other hand, if you're gung-ho for reading graphic sex scenes, bring it on! I'm down with that.

Random quirky things that I love in general, but are not by any means required:
Genderswap, bodyswap, EPIC-ness, slow build to a relationship, and strong women.

In conclusion, if you've found something that you want to read and you're not sure if it quite fits in with my preferences here, read it anyway! Have fun!

I adore: SF, fantasy, supernatural, extended UST, women who kick ass, geeks, math, competency (especially in military character, ESPECIALLY in senior non-com, especiallySPECIALLY if she's a woman), a heroish character paired with a kinda socially spazzy jerkish one in any gender combination, action, adventure, romance, zombies, ghosts, banter, wordplay, memory play, time play, world turned upside down, finely-crafted AUs where all differences result from one or two small changes, cracked-out AUs (especially the ones that make the crackiest crack plausible), coulda-been-an-episode canon-compliant fics, crossovers provided at least half the content draws from canons I know, sex that advances the plot, BD(sm), bonding, mating and other takes on not-quite-human closeness/sexuality, emergent sentience, crises of identity (person or group), crises of faith (not necessarily religious), happy or hopeful endings, hurt/comfort, schmoop, any variation of the stuck together trope, communicating in unusual ways, things/people/effects/values/strategies/data/skills operating out of their proper context, playing a role, geology, mad science, steampunk, ancient curses, prophesy, amnesia, possession, body swap, power swap, letter swap, and more.

I avoid: PWP, schmoop without plot, crack without plot, graphs without plot, unrelieved angst/darkness, perpetually depressed main character, explicit underage sex especially adult/child, the mundane ordinary world, ninja, fics mainly about canon antagonists, post-apocalyptic fics where everybody else is dead and eventually the characters will be too but for now they're going through the motions of survival while contemplating their various forms of guilt and trauma but they love each other the end

Gen, slash, het, femslash, threesomes, moresomes are all okay. But if you'd like it narrowed down, in the fandoms I requested I have most often sought out: Buffy/Spike, Spike/Xander, Max/Alec, Fraser/Ray K, McKay/Sheppard, and Sam/Dean.

I hope somewhere in all that you'll find a story that we'll both enjoy!

Hello, lovely podficcer! First off, I just want to say how much I appreciate you doing this for me. Thank you!

I love apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic stories, powers (such as, but not limited to, magic or fusion with X-Men or Heroes), fusions with His Dark Materials, and sometimes AUs (especially in the SGA fandom because they seem to somehow write the best ones, IMHO, but some of the J2 AUs are good, too). (Specifically for SGA, I'm a sucker for sentient!Atlantis and Atlantis secedes from Earth fics.) I would prefer a happy/happy-ish ending, although a not-too-happy ending is fine if the fic is fantastic. I really don't like fandom/RPS crossovers (so, no Sam Winchester/Jensen Ackles, etc.). I generally lean more towards stories with pairings but pairings with a plot besides "I love him, but he'll never love me, woe" or an excuse for limitless sex scenes, although really fantastic gen is great, too. And this is going to sound strange, but I really love characters portrayed as just really competent.

I'm pretty monogamous with my main pairings, but I'm fairly open with secondary pairings, even for ones not specifically mentioned below. I'll just give a quick list here.

Hey, reader!

First things first: I'm participating in this exchange as much for the principle of the thing (i.e. getting more podfic out there) as any need for a specific story to my tastes, so feel free to ignore me completely and just pick something that makes you happy. :)

That said: As I mentioned in my original request, I generally prefer gen/non-ship when possible. If that's not feasible, I skew more toward slash than het.

I'm actually moderately fond of slash that doesn't *feel* shippy because the relationship is more messy or complicated than just the traditional "true love", "recognizing your best friend is your soulmate", etc. Conflicted emotions, sex out of mutual need rather than emotional connection, a lack of happily ever after (or having the happily ever after come at a significant cost)... it isn't necessarily always dark!fic, but when I think of favorite slash stories, those are the sorts of things that come to mind.

For gen stories, I'm pretty content with anything that's plotty and in-character and doesn't play character-assassination games against character(s) the author dislikes. I *am* a hurt/comfort junkie, so having some whump or emotional angst in the mix is always a nice bonus... but certainly not mandatory. :)

Hello generous and talented podficcer! Thank you for recording for me! I am so looking forward to hearing whatever you come up with, but here are some indications of my preferences:

As a general guide, I filled out a 99 Kinks Meme (http://blacksquirrel.livejournal.com/95492.html) a few years ago. It's getting a little old now, but all of those things still make me very happy and provide a pretty accurate sense of my tastes.

As I mentioned in my sign-up I do prefer happy endings, although I'm very pleased by angst followed by happiness, and I don't need the ending to be perfect, just satisfying and hopeful (although, if you've got perfect, go ahead and lay it on me). I also prefer consummation to endless UST or fade to black, but that is up to you and your comfort level. Het, slash, femslash, threesomes, and moresomes are all fine. If you must go gen, that's fine and I will still cherish the podfic especially if it's twisty and plotty, but it's not my preference. Unless otherwise specified below, I do like AUs, crossovers, and zany fandom cliches (bodyswap! genderswap! stuck in a cave/elevator/bedroom with one bed!)

Harry Potter - I love strong, capable versions of Hermione in almost any pairing except with Ron or Harry (ok, I'll say it - Hermione/Lucius is like my favorite thing right now, but I'm flexible) (oddly OT3 Ron/Hermione/Harry is fine too). I prefer to avoid dystopias where Voldemort won. I do like unconventional pairings that strangely work out - like Snape/Nevil, Snape/Sirius, Hagrid/Firenze, Draco/Remus, Remus/Luna, Ron/Draco, etc. Some of the classic pairings turn me off (like Snape with Harry or Draco, Harry and Draco with each other, Hermione/Draco), but for really popular pairings I do like Hermione/Snape, and Sirius/Remus

Pirates of the Caribbean - Any combination of Jack, Elizabeth, Will, Norrington, and Anamaria. *Any* combination :)

Buffy - I like everyone and I love the ensemble aspect of the show, but I prefer to avoid Angel/Angelus and Dawn as focal characters, and for any pairing involving Xander to not be the focus. Tara and Faith were my favorites.

Due South - I think Fraser swings both Rays. Sometimes at the same time.

Highlander - It's been awhile since I was active in this fandom, but I feel all nostalgic about it and remember pretty much all of the characters fondly. I was into Duncan/Methos, primarily, but also Duncan/Amanda/Methos

Hornblower - Archie/Horatio, Horatio/Archie/Bush - in other words, something set before Archie dies and Horatio goes all maudlin

Jane Austen - Pride and Prejudice or Sense and Sensibility, no modern AUs please

Sherlock Holmes - Sherlock/Watson, and a good mystery

Star Wars - Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon - It's been forever since I read in this fandom, but it would be nice to listen to some of the old classics again

Merlin - Merlin/Arthur, Gwen/Morgana, Gwen/Arthur, Merlin/Arthur/Gwen/Morgana - I love Gwen best, but any of these will do.

American Idol RPS/F - Anything involving Adam Lambert and another person from the show (i.e. Kradam is great, so is Adam/David Cook, or Adam/Seacrest, or Adam/Boom Operator, or Adam/Allison, just not other people from his RL like former/current boyfriends)

Naturally, any gift I get will be loved and treasured, and probably listened to in inappropriate situations ;)
However, if you're wanting some guidelines as to what I like, here's what I love:

Supernatural
I'm a Sam/Dean girl at heart. I also like side helpings of Sam/Jess, Sam/Dean/Jess, Sam/Ruby or either of the boys with OFCs. I can't stand Dean/Castiel - nothing against Cas, I like him fine, but I don't like the thought of angels having sex. It freaks me out. (And yes, I understand the hypocrisy of enjoying a bit of Sam/Ruby, lol)
I'm very much a top!Sam girl. Character death, BDSM, bloodplay - all the dark stuff is fair game, it doesn't bother me. The only things that do bother me are scat, watersports, and daddy!cest.

I never used to be into J2, until I filled a prompt at the spnkink_meme. I think it's because I'm fairly iffy about the idea of RPF in general that I love AUs.
I also love Danneel Harris. She's awesome. So any J2 fics where she has a big role (in whatever context) would be awesome.

I will love whatever you read for me, because it's for me and that's all kinds of awesome. But since I know that's not necessarily helpful...

I love gen fic of all kinds. Dark, light, silly, serious, deep, shallow, whatever. The things that really push my buttons are friendship fic, adventure fic, characterful fic and fic-that-could-an-episode. My Delicious Account (http://delicious.com/jadesfire2808/bundle:fandom) will probably give you a good idea of what I like, as will the recs (http://jadesfire2808.livejournal.com/tag/recs) tag at my journal. I have no problem with fics that are 'slash if you squint' or UST or strongly implied relationships - ambiguity is another thing that pushes my buttons - but I'm not keen on romance or stories that are principally about romantic relationships of any flavour.

But mostly, I love fic where you can hear that the reader is enjoying themselves. So plese pick something you love and I will love it too.

OK, so I put a huge list of fandoms, so I won't got through them all. I'll stick with general likes and dislikes. My fandoms are slash fandoms- so, John/Rodney, Fraser/RayK (very important, I love RayV, but not in a slash pairing) Jim/Blair, Clark/Lex, and Jared/Jensen. I'm picky about my threesomes, so probably best to avoid them!

I like happy endings- deathfic, permanent serious injury, torture and unrelieved angst are huge no nos for me. I'm happy wth h/c as long as the emphasis is on the c. Incest is a huge turn-off for me. I don't like character bashing- even if I don't like the character.

I wouldn't say I was particularly kinky, but I love well-written kissing scenes, and anything involving one character writing on another. I love snark, snappy dialogue, AUs, (I ADORE harlequin AUS) pining and boys being oblivious, and UST, as long as it is resolved in the end

We both really like slash and gen, think crossovers are cool and are pretty open about genre, we're just not very big fans of dark-fic, but that should still leave the field pretty open to you.

As for the fandoms:

In Merlin: We love Merlin/Arthur. :D! But gen (like on the show, so still rather slashy *g*) is also fine.

In SGA: We love McKay/Sheppard and are also pretty fond of OT4. :)

In Harry Potter: We don't really like crossgenerational incest and we both like Harry/Snape, but other pairings or gen stories are fine as well. :) (I, for example, also rather like Harry/Draco and have nothing against the epilogue, but I also don't have a problem if it's ignored. I'm not sure about Lian's opinion here and unfortunately she'll be unable to go online before the weekend, but I'll poke her so that she adds to this comment if needed. :) )

Hello wonderful podfic person. Thanks for volunteering for this.

I've got some suggestions here, but absolutely feel free to go your own way if that's what you want to do. These are just to give you an idea if you're stuck. I do have a couple of things I really don't like, so these are those, but outside of those, I just love podfic.

Dislikes:
Character death/super angsty stories, het (as a side to the main story is fine), endings where our heroes don't end up together. Thank you!

Likes:
In all the fandoms I've listed below, I love
- stories that exist within canon and stick to it/play around with it
- AU's (any sort, earthside, not at war, non-magical, non-supernatural or anything else really)
- kink (no scat please or under 16yrs old sex), but I'm pretty open-minded otherwise
- UST that finally resolves into a happy ending
- Polyamory
- Misunderstandings (that resolve!)
- Stories where pairs/people I've listed below are in other relationships with other characters (original, canon male/female, whatever) but end up with each other...

Hi there - um, you're not dim, I wasn't clear!!!!! Sorry about that! I do like them! I should have phrased that differently, and put the "not at war" in quotation marks. I was referring to fandoms like SGA & Generation Kill, where the canon is set in a war/conflict zone. I do like AU's set where they aren't in a war/conflict zone...
