I should warn you that at work I'm known for asking picky and sometimes confusion causing questions.

Here's mine. I've got several recordings half in the can. Three recorded but not edited. Do they count for this, or should I only count podfics that I start to record on March 30th? I want to play by the rules.

recorded, partly-recorded, partly-edited, or even partly posted - they are all fine. as long as the complete podfic isn't already posted prior to march 30, and you post it here during the challenge dates, it counts. <3

Question time:

I've been working on six stories, same tiny fandom, same author, ranging in length from untitled drabble to about 20 minutes; four are gen, then two different ships. I feel compelled to post them as an anthology because that makes sense, and makes me feel less guilty about podficcing tiny fics. But because my guilt does not negate my whoredom for points, do I still get all the itty points for each? For the sake of organisation in the archive, would you rather not deal with an anthology like this?

(...if I read every fic in the entire fandom, I probably wouldn't make it to thirty all up, so anyone who wants to listen would probably do a blanket download anyway, since there are hardly fandom factions.)

well, my reply is late, but answering your question...YES i totally wish it was longer, or more than once a year!

Recently I was thinking that amplificathon should host a Big Bang Podfic Challenge. cause right about the time amplificathon is over, many big bang challenges are ending and we could begin recording big bang fics for a fall deadline or something.

Or maybe a holiday challenge where stories are requested at the end of summer/early fall and then gifted in December?

i would totally help run such challenges, btw, if amplificathon wanted to take them on. ♥

i love both of these ideas.

as preliminary research, could you try to put together a list of big bang communities & challenges? what if we combine your ideas and make it a longform podfic exchange? with a word minimum? we'll need pinch hitters, too - there is no way that we want anyone who gifts something like that *not* getting something. announce september, turn in gifts beginning of december, gifts go live by dec 20?

we'll need to figure out a way to handle permissions, and a way to sign up - i'm thinking that we shouldn't do specific story requests, since there's a huge potential for mismatch btn requester and reader, but maybe fandom+up to 2 offlimits elements? like "sga; prefer no mcshep or non-con in stories". i think i can set up a form to handle requests, and do it in two stages - where once we get the requests in, we have a fandom list and do reader signups where they say what fandoms they could do, and then we do secret assigning.

also, we should have a central post for talking about which authors have given a green light.

i am thinking we'll take you on as a mod for this, because we *will* need the help (we kind of needed help for the regular amplificathon this year. podmod is swampedmod!)

are you up for this? i can guarantee it will be frustrating. :D

wow, nice work. okay, we need to sort the rules and get things into motion, which should probably happen via email. but not right this second.

points to ponder for now: what is the wordcount range in these challenges? how short will we allow? if we allow bigbang stories that are relatively short, should we ask that the offering be as many stories as it takes to make a minimum? like: if a big bang in [x] fandom is a 20,000 word story, and we are asking for gifts of 30,000, then do we ask people to do a long story plus a second story that will bring them over the minimum? hmmm.

You know, I just realized... Isn't it sort of odd that the first 30 minutes each thirty minutes after the second are worth 5 points, but the second 30 minutes is really only worth 3 points?

1-29 min = 5 points
1-29 min + 30-59 min = 5 points + 3 points = 8 points
1-29 min + 30-59 min + 60-89 min = 5 points + 3 points + 5 points = 13 points

Maybe just make each thirty minute span worth 5 points and have done with it? I don't know how you're planning to do the points this years, but there's my two cents. :)
