Blanket Permission List Updated

In the name of pod_aware, I spent the day updating fan lore's Blanket Permission to Podfic post using every source I knew of—-the blanket permission posts at DW and LJ amplificathon, at DW and LJ multipodicity, everything from the pod_aware Day 2 roundup, the list at chromatic_podfic, and fire_juggler's post for HP podfic-friendly authors.

As of today, the page lists blanket permission from 440 authors, including at least one author for every letter of the alphabet!

I want to take this opportunity to make sure that the list is as comprehensive as possible, so I'd love it if people would do the following:

1. If there are any authors you know of who have blanket permission policies and aren't on the list yet, either add them or leave a comment with their information so I can add them.

2. If there are authors you know of who would probably give blanket permission but just haven't officially done so, consider contacting them to ask if, in honor of pod_aware--which doesn't totally officially end until Sunday night--they'd like to make an official blanket permission statement and be added to the list. (I'm not saying to put pressure on authors who aren't comfortable with blanket permission, but to encourage those who would be comfortable but don't know about it or just haven't made an official statement yet to take a couple minutes and do so.) If they say yes, then refer back to step 1!

3. If you know of any comms where they you make requests for authors to leave blanket permission, posts like that usually get a huge response. If you make one (again, you can cite pod_aware as the occasion!) and get responses, then refer back to step 1 :)

I wouldn't be surprised if the Blanket Permission List goes above 500 very soon, especially if everyone makes a push in the next day or so to help it grow.

A CC license is a blanket statement already... I think if I was katemonkey and I'd chosen that tool I'd be annoyed having to reword things differently somewhere else. Since the website clearly states the license that applies to the works, I'd expect that link to be used for reference for the Fanlore listing. /nosy passerby

If that is the case, then katemonkey is free to tell me that, and then to explain to me what part of her CC license she'd like to have quoted in the site and what she'd like me to link to as the reference. Hopefully she would do that instead of getting annoyed, since it's not like we're not all trying to work together and help each other over here.

It's The Rock. FWIW, I always use it somewhat affectionately and wouldn't have used it at all if I didn't feel we've become friends recently.

If you want to try to explain again, maybe email would be an easier place to not have to get it perfect the first time (as I am DMing to you right now.) :) I fully admit that I only skimmed the CC license this morning, and I didn't really process what it was and the fact that it could be used as the link on the fanlore page if I used a little creativity. I was in a hurry and trying to make things quick and easy for myself when I wrote that reply, and it's totally reasonable to tell me to look at the link again and realize that I probably don't actually need another statement or comment to be written if I just spend a moment to process it.

I just got a little grumpy at (what I read as) the implication that this was a big enough mistake that someone should be upset with me over it. Which ties into some personal stuff going on in my life that I, too, would be happy to clarify in email.

Anyway, I hope we're cool? And I promise to get more educated about CC licenses and how they play into blanket podfic permission. It's definitely a knowledge gap that I have that needs filling.

I went ahead and added you to the blanket permission list, citing this comment and including a link to the CC license.

Do you happen to know if there's a database or list somewhere of other people who have this license on their fic, so that I'd be able to add them to the blanket permission list without requiring them to take any additional action?

I just wanted to stop by and thank you soooo much for doing these updates and for posting this! The fanlore page is often the first place I go when trying to figure out what shiny new fic I could most easily play with. So great to have it curated so thoroughly in honor of pod_aware!
