Recs from Amplificathon 2011!
Jun. 22nd, 2011 10:43 amThe annual
amplificathon fest is over for another year! This has been the most productive year of the fest for me, I recorded over 30 hours in 39 fandoms, hopefully I'll be somwhere in the Top Ten when the final points are tallied. But if not? I had *heaps* of fun:D
In addition to my own entries, I archived what feels like 1 MILLION podfics for other participants and have listened to hundreds of stories in a myriad of fandoms, accents and styles.
I've recced a lot of the following in my journal over the course of the fest but I wanted to add a few more and post them here as well.
Maybe you already listened to these and forgot to feedback? Now's the time to let them know how much you loved them! Maybe you missed them first time round? Give them a try now! I highly reccomend every single one of them:)
sophinisba: Maybe not all her recordings are dripping with lust and filth but I think that’s just because she’s trying to make up for the utter depravity of Experienced. Good luck with that.
It’s hard to read porn and not go over the top or go too far the *other* way and be totally unemotional. I don’t know exactly how to describe her reading of this except to say that it’s *nasty*. And I mean that in the best possible way:)
luzula: Who knew that
luzula’s voice was perfect for robots? Crazy robots, robots in love, specifcally robots from Asimov’s Robot series. I especially enjoyed Nice Work If You Can Get It and C/Fe
And even though one of these was written by
astolat (an author I adore), I never would have read it. Why should I care about these strangers in a canon that I have barely any knowledge of? Boy was I missing out.
adistantsun: I loved her voice so much that I began the difficult process of listening to a whole bunch of stories in a completely alien fandom, namely J-Pop (kat-tun). I'm still not really sure who these guys are and what's fanon and what actually happened in reality but her voice is so pleasant and sweet to listen to that it's a pleasure to be slightly bewildered by all her podfic:D
If, like me, you don't know anything about J-Pop I'd start with A Tree Called Jin, which is basically a modern day fairy tale.
fresne: Where did this girl come from? Seriously. I can remember listening to Battlefield Romance Thing and literally having to sit down and laugh at the brilliance of her recording. She reads her own stuff and it’s like she was only able to say half of what she wanted to with the text version of the stories and is only now able to make you understand exactly how they should be experienced.
I have other favourite readers but I have to say that
fresne is, hands down, my favourite *performer*.
Another great one from her: Case of the Rolling Wheel and the Long Road Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock (BBC) & Pushing Daisies. Madness, you say? Brilliance, says I.
jennacorinth is a delight, I could just eat her Scottish accent up with a spoon. If I love an accent enough, then it becomes part of the performance, contributing to my enjoyment of what I'm listening to. Static is a Generation Kill story about zombies and surviving and, yeah, a little about Brad and Nate working out they love each other. But I'll be honest, it's mostly the zombies:D
And remember to leave the readers/authors feedback!
podklb just posted an excellent essay on How to give great podfic feedback if you need some suggestions about how to let someone know you enjoyed their recording:D
And fellow listeners! Feel free to rec me the stuff *you* really enjoyed listening to during
