Hey, all!  I've been away from fandom and podfic for a while, but have been poking at it again after downloading a bunch for a recent long trip.

Couple general questions:

1)  I got caught up on Auralphonic on the trip, too, and in one of the episodes, there was mention of a possible new Critical Feedback Exchange.  Just curious whether that happened?  I wouldn't have been able to participate, but I'm a big proponent of critical feedback, in general, so would've been curious to see the results (assuming they were public and not one-on-one).

2)  Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever toyed with the idea (or actually carried through on it) of delivering podfic itself in a podcast format where a listener could subscribe to a "podcast" for a particular podficcer (or fandom?) and get a feed of occasional new stuff automatically?

hmmm

I think some fen from Yuri on Ice are starting on something akin number 2 this week. It's actually going on over Tumblr now at the minute where you vote on the podfics that get through.

Dunno about number 1, sorry.

2) I think that creating podfic in a podcast format puts authors and podficcers into a massive gray area. Authors would need to agree to have their stories shared in such a way, which could have major push back (especially in RPF fandoms). Podficcers would also be making their voices available to the world specifically to be searched which could cause problems if one has a very distinct voice and gets recognized by a family member or co-worker. It's a lot different than posting on AO3 which - at this point - is a very niche website as opposed to an app like Stitcher or Apple Podcasts.

I'm not saying that the idea can't work, but that it would need to be highly curated in order to be viable.

I had talked about running a round 2 of the Feedback Exchange, but I sort of timed it badly and some other projects ended up taking priority instead and it fizzled out.

As for podfic as a podcast, I've seen it a few times? In particular there was a BtVS podcast that updated really regularly a few years back. I also remember the creators of WtNV putting out a request to fans not to do mock episodes on podcast platforms because people kept mistaking them for the canon podcast and it was giving them headaches.

TBH, after figuring out how to make the RSS feed needed for Auralphonic, I'm a little surprised more podficcers don't use it as a way to share their podfic. It would make juggling how to download/stream the file on phones a lot easier, not to mention following certain people. I think the reason it hasn't happened is bc a lot of ppl would be uncomfortable having their streams crossed. Everyone and their dog can have a podcast, but it still feels weid to put your podfic in the iTunes store, ya know? And most podcasting apps run off of the big aggregate sites like iTunes to pull content.

Ah, thanks for the confirmation on the Feedback Exchange. I was just afraid that it was 'happening' somewhere that I wasn't aware of.

And I guess the concern about hooking through iTunes (et. al.) is an angle I hadn't thought of. As someone who listens more often than records nowadays, the allure of that ability to have new recordings just arrive cleanly on my device is so pleasant.
