The audiofic archive is gone?

I was following a link from AO3 for a podfic, hoping it would be one of audiofic archive's working links, but instead I got this:

dial tcp: lookup audiofic.jinjurly.com on 127.0.0.1:53: no such host

Has anyone else tried to access the site without success, or is this just an issue for me?

It's a real shame. I really feel for everyone who has put in countless hours making podfic that was hosted on the site, and for those who worked behind the scenes trying to keep the site running.

There was a post, dated 24 Feb17, talking about issues with the audiofic site being out of space, see - https://amplificathon.dreamwidth.org/3113115.html

One of the commenters (kitsunheart) said that the website’s domain registration was set to expire in September 17 & that that was a deadline to watch. I’m guessing they meant the end of Sep? Maybe the rego hasn’t been renewed. I really hope it isn’t gone for good :’(

I am not an official spokes person for the archive, and I really wish someone who *was* would say something, but. In early September, thought some back channels, I got news that an outside group had offered to take on hosting the archive and that the owner had accepted their offer? So I really hope that this down time is part of the move?

Because yeah, the archivists volunteers who were repopulating the missing backlog ran out of server space in February. Then a little while ago archivists lost the ability to log onto the server at all (it seemed the password was changed and no one was informed).

Anyways, I really, really wish we'd get some kind of official word because there are a lot of stressed out members of the podfic community right now.

I hope it is a move. It would be such an incredible shame if all of that fandom history were to be lost.

Thanks for letting us know! I tried uploading some missing fics and couldn't log in and there weren't anyone around to ask either. I hope it will be resolved. :-/

There is now a different error message, from Dreamhost, which, from what I understand, has done the hosting for the archive for a while. It seems that some work might be being done, so hopefully we've just got to wait a bit.

Huh, I had that same message earlier this week when I set podfic.com up to be https compatible so that the streaming code would continue to work on AO3. I wonder if something similar is going on?

The archive loaded for me today, so it looks like we may be back in business. I did get confirmation that the down time was due to switching hosts (probably while the DNS took its time propagating across the internet), and there might be a few bumps over the next few days.

did you get confirmation that new people were taking ownership of the site? Your comment above is, of course, the first I've heard of this being a possibility, and now I'm wondering if it's happening or not...

I did get more details on that deal. It's not that the other people were going to take over ownership of the archive, it's that they're providing another form of redundant backup of the site so the problem we had in March that initially brought the archive down can't happen again. But the main AA is still jinjurly's.
