Greedy_dancer, on DW | on AO3, is not a hidden podficcing gem; the secret’s out about her, at least in bandom. But she’s branched out into Avengers fandom with gusto and productivity recently, and those non-bandom people who don’t know her might be missing out!! She’s one of my very favorite podficcers, a wonderful writer, and a good friend as well.
She has so many strengths as a performer:
-commitment to technical refinement. You can expect low background noise, excellent pacing and precise editing from her work, every podfic, every time. There are readers who are so exceptional at delivery that I’ll listen to them despite technical imperfections/background noise/poor pacing, etc. (and she’d be one of them if she had any technical imperfections). But you never have to put up with those things as you’re enjoying one of greedy_dancer’s podfics. Nothing will distract you from the awesome.
-Natural ease and enthusiasm during sex scenes. Let’s be real. Just between you and me and the Internet, I love listening to greedy_dancer read porn. There’s nothing bashful about her as she slips into the character’s experiences and holds me right there with them. There’s something so direct about her approach to it, as though of course sex is part of this fic, and of course sex is part of why you would read this fic or listen to a performance of it, and of course sex is something that these characters have found themselves in the midst of… Her unabashed directness is empowering to me, as a woman who likes porn and is not shy about it. *________________*
-Keeping characters’ dialogue and/or headspace in their own voices. Without ever overdoing it, greedy_dancer channels her characters’ voices consistently throughout her podfics. Whether it’s Fucking George’s formal stilted directness as he awkwardly but sincerely lectures Frank, or Frank’s eye-roll thoughts in reaction, or (uunffffffff) Thor’s breathless “Brother,” while he fucks Loki in their hipster Seattle apartment, she stays with their voices and you always know who’s speaking and where he/she is coming from.
-Great humor delivery. Lots of the fics she selects for recording have annoyed/eye-rolly/sarcastic narrators. She’s excellent at performing sarcasm, which is nice in fandoms that include Frank Iero and Tony Stark.
Here are some of my favorite podfics of hers.
Bandom:
Born to Motorbabies by jjtaylor.
Fandom and Pairing: MCR Danger Days Verse, Frank/Gerard
Summary: Here's the thing with having a crush on a mysterious DJ; it's kind of an inconvenient place to hang your affections.
Reasons we Don’t by airgiodslv.
Fandom and Pairing: MCR, Frank/Gerard, R.
Summary: “Why don’t we fuck?” Frank asks, tipping his head back to blow smoke at the sky.
Nightswimming by wax_jism.
Fandom and Pairing: MCR, Frank/Gerard, Mikey/Pete, Mikey/Alicia
Summary: AU. My Teenage Romance.
Pinch Hitter by Bexless.
Fandom and Pairing: Bandom/AI crossover, Frank/Adam/Gerard, Frank/Gerard, NC-17.
Summary: Gerard passed over the lube and condoms, hesitated, then said, "This isn't a stunt dick thing." Adam raised an eyebrow. "Okay?" "Okay," said Gerard. "I'm just saying. I could take care of this myself." "I'm sure you're more than capable," said Adam in a soothing voice. "Look, if this is weirding you out, that's cool. Sometimes a guest star only seems like a good idea."
Another Cog in the Murder Machine by nokomis305.
Fandom and Pairing: Glee/Bandom crossover: Bob/Sue Sylvester. PG-13.
Summary: “I met the drummer of My Chemical Romance in a drum circle at Daytona Beach. Spring break, 1996. We had a brief affair.”
Adventures in Solitude (we thought we lost you) by sunsetmog.
Fandom and Pairing: Panic, Brendon/Spencer, Teen, 16k
Summary: It's Christmas Eve, and Spencer Smith is not endearing himself to his staff. He's banned decorations, informed his PA that Starbucks red cups aren't welcome in the office, and refused to close early for the holidays. A sort-of Christmas Carol AU.
Avengers:
We Spent Our Darkest Days Howling at the Moon by Stereobone.
Fandom and Pairing: Avengers, Thor/Loki
Summary: "I'm at the train station," Loki says. His voice is static over the phone. A hipster AU.
Unforseen Side-Effects by Fickle_Obsessions.
Fandom and Pairing: Avengers, Steve/Tony, Thor/Loki
Summary: In a quick effort to make Loki docile, the Tony Stark releases an experimental drug that only effects Asgardians. It gets Thor too, but hey, he had no choice. It works a little too well. Loki goes from trying to destroy the world to braiding Thor's hair as well as other things. Steve helpfully sticks around and clutches his pearls while Tony waits for the drug to wear off.
The Helicarrier by gdgdbaby.
Fandom and Pairing: Avengers, hints of Steve/Tony but mostly gen
Summary: The glass case that holds Captain America's uniform and shield is filled to the brim with what looks like a bright orange gelatin.
