Oh, cool! I wasn't sure if anyone here would be interested in the book, but it really is interesting. Kropotkin had a fascinating life, and he also puts everything into a historical perspective--I learned so much from it.

I listened to The Hills of Iowa today and it totally ripped me apart in the very best way. I think part of it is that I grew up as a lesbian in Iowa (I have always LOVED that song), but listening to this podfic was like looking at my formative years through a rainy window. All these little sharp stabs of familiarity buried in that story. And the way you read it just made the atmosphere that much more effective for me. I actually eventually just stopped what I was doing and just sat there and listened. So thank you for that.

The thing is, I am Swedish. When I wrote this, I thought that there was probably no way I was going to get all the cultural stuff right, but the narrator and the story just came to me so strongly that I had to try to write it anyway.
