Megaupload, the state of the Archive, and Podbang

As you may be aware, Megaupload was shut down Thursday and all links to files hosted on the site are no longer viable. Some of you used Megaupload to host podfic, and most of you use some kind of temporary file host.

If anyone has lost their podfic to Megaupload (or through file deletion of any kind) and no longer have a copy of your work, we would like to help you recover it. Please leave a comment here and let us know what you're missing (and where it's been posted) and we will do our best to find someone who downloaded it and still has a copy.

If you see a request in the comments and you have the file someone needs, please help them out! And if your only copy of your podfic exists on a filesharing site, please back it up! We don't want anyone to permanently lose their fanwork. <3

After the Archive's temporary downtime last year, it came back up for a bright, shining moment, during which the archivists were able to work for, oh, 48 hours? And then the Archive broke itself once more (at least the front end still works this time? mostly? :D?).

Professionals are now being talked to in order to get the Archive up and running again. We hope to have a resolution soon.

Sadly, Podbang 2011 did not grow wings, but we're thinking ahead to Podbang 2012! Sometime soon we'll be querying the comm about changes we're looking at making to the challenge.

I've got a LOT of podfic on my hard drive, so if there's a list of what's missing I volunteer to check it against what I've got. Here's hoping that nothing's irretreviably lost.

I keep a backlog of all fics I've listened to, so I've got a good chunk of the archive. I can figure out a torrent, if necessary.

However, with size limits on my computer, I did change a lot of more recent fics to 32 kbps. I've noticed no big quality difference, but audiophiles might. Those in m4b format will be their original quality, as I can't change those.

I've downloaded nearly all of the bandom podfics available as far as I know, a good few Supernatural, Glee, Doctor Who, American Idol and The Devil Wears Prada. Just leave me a comment if you need anything!

And I have, unfortunately, lost my recording of I Have Been All Things Unholy. I only had it backed up on Megaupload and deleted my copy by accident. I do have the podbook but I wouldn't know where to start with converting it into .mp3 so I can upload it to my new host (thanks, paraka, while I'm here!)

Between podfic and audiobooks I have over 212GB of audiofiction, and it's mostly fanfic. I have just about anything that's been available in Supernatural, J2, Smallville, SGA, SG1, AI, Merlin, and some Bandom and Sherlock, some odds and ends also, so I may have something not in the list. I'd be happy to help with lost files. I do have mostly slash and gen. Only a little bit of het. But please ask anyways, if the story description was interesting, I probably downloaded it.:) OOPS! Anyone know what the problem with the audiofic archive is? Tried to go there a minute ago. If you Google it,there is a warning that the site may be compromised, and when you try to goto it, you are redirected. :( I pray nothing is really wrong, especially with th e recent closing of Megaupload. I'm lucky (anal) enough tohave just about anything I've ever listened to saved on a media drive. Once again I have about 200 GB of fanfic, so if someone lost theirs, ask me, even if its not one of the fandoms I put in my first post, since I tend to download almost anything that sounds interesting to me. Yes, I AM a fanfic (porn) addict. :)
