I recently put out feelers for podfic-friendly authors in Harry Potter fandom and created a list. This is mainly because although there are lists out there where authors have raised their hands as being podfic-friendly, there haven’t been a lot of replies from Harry Potter authors, and they tend to get buried in the Merlin, SGA, SPN deluge. So...if you're at all interested in recording Harry Potter fanfiction and want to know some pro-podfic authors, going...

here

...might give you a jumping off point

(mods, I wasn't sure which tags to use, so I hope I picked the right one)

Wow, this is really great! :D It's awesome that you took the initiative to do this. Thanks!

I haven't read HP fic in the loooongest time. The most recent thing I've read (well, listened to) was fayjay's recording of astolat's SPN/HP fic Old Country. I've been meaning to seek out HP podfics to listen to, and I hope your list encourages more of them to be made!

Thanks again for taking the time to compile this!

I wonder if part of the hesitation is that so many podficcers don't have the British accent? I know it makes me hesitate. Probably surprising, because I actually love a bunch of podfics where the reader's accent doesn't match up to the original canon's accent. It doesn't bother me to listen to them in the slightest, but I have the sense that I'd feel so awkward doing it myself. Something about saying words like "crumpet" or "mate" and missing the nuance of a sentence just makes me nervous.

I might eventually try recording a nice, short gen!fic when I build my courage up. Get my toes wet, or something.

Aside from that, it is surprising podfic hasn't taken off in HP, just considering the fact that its canon is a literary one. One might assume a lot of people have listened to the HP audiobooks, and thus would be interested in podfic. Weren't there even a few podcasts where people recorded a fanfic a week or something?

And yes, you should try a nice, short gen!fic. As it happens, I have a list of authors who have given blanket permission *grins and nudges gently*

Heh. Quite true, quite true. And the list is so well organized to boot! I don't even have to click a bunch of links to figure out what sort of stuff the authors write. You list pairings right there! Very convenient.
