Stargate Atlantis podfic - Loving Rodney

Reader's note:

There are two versions of this podfic, a music enhanced version where I utilized music to introduce the story, indicate chapter breaks and whenever the author used a visual break in the text, and to end the story. At times, when Atlantis has something to say, I read over a low level of music.

And then there is a music free version, for any listeners who prefer their podfic with just the reader's voice. There is silence to indicate the visual breaks in the text and to indicate a chapter is ending.

Recorded for 2010 Moonridge charity auction for the Sentinel fandom.

I loved this Podfic... (I might have gotten to hear it early) It is one of my favorite go to fics. The music is haunting and lovely. I often go to sleep to this story because of the peaceful blending of music and story.
Laurie's voice and editing make this a wonderful experience.

On another note, I finished file twenty-seven of the practice copy of Bent Justice this morning, probably two, at the most three, left to do. After I listen to them several times (probably once all the way through and then individual files before I record them) I'm going to try and do a blitz kind of thing for recording. Then I'll probably concentrate on some other stories for the contest, and then start the editing.

Just out of curiosity are you aiming for having BJ done by the end of amplificathon2011 or are you thinking later in the summer and then holding it for next years amplificathon?

Much as I'd like to be able to have it finished for this year, there's no way I can pull that off. I hope to have it recorded by the end of Spring but the editing will take forever. I think I'll be lucky to have it done by winter. I'll send it to you probably two chapters at a time, since that's a good amount to upload, but I won't post it till next year. The pairing points alone make me dizzy to contemplate, let alone the length.

Aright, I've finished the podfic, and it was awesome. Your John was so perfect - by turns fierce and adorable. Especially the bit where he tells Elizabeth that the Jumpers are flying for Rodney - spot-on delivery and characterization. Also, I really enjoyed the music-as-Atlantis moments...actually, would you mind telling me who the artist is that you used for the musical interludes? 'Cause I found it to be particularly relaxing, and would enjoy hearing more ;-)

You've got more podfics for us in the upcoming months, y/y?

Hello,

Enya (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enya) (nearest to an English pronunciation, apparently) is an Irish musician, and Boadicea is the name of the song. Boadicea was a Celtic warrior queen, and although I hadn't heard the song before I did this podfic, I was pretty sure I wanted to use something by Enya, since some of her music was in the ballpark for what I was looking for. When I checked it out, I thought it would be a good choice for emphasizing the role Atlantis played in the story.

I don't like to post the music information on the download posts, because I suspect they might set up certain expectations on the listener's part that might not match up when they hear the music, since I cut it up and might use different versions than they are familiar with, also I want the music to support the story, not steal attention away from it, but I give credit to the musician at the end of the podfic.

I also considered having the music be more about John's and Rodney's relationship developing, something a little flirty and amusing, but in the end I decided Boadicea was the better choice. Atlantis is so ancient and powerful, invoking a warrior queen seemed right.

I posted another one by Lady Ra the other day, 'Epiphany in a Stairwell' which is a Sentinel story. Mostly I've done Sentinel, but I've done a couple that weren't. I'll be doing another SGA one by Lady Ra, 'The Conversation' which is John and Rodney centric, before this year's contest is finished. I've got others lined up to do but for the most part they are stories from the Sentinel fandom.
