This may also pertain to Audacity users, but then again, maybe not.

In GarageBand, when you are ready to export your podfic and you click on Share >> Send Song to iTunes, if you don't edit the tags for Album Artist and Composer to display as you want them (or later check and change these and possibly other tags as well in iTunes before uploading your podfic to the web), GB will automatically insert your computer's user name. If this also happens to be your RL name, that is what shows up in the podfic's tags. Oops, not good!

I know this from opening downloaded podfics into iTunes, where I keep all my usual podbook tags visible. Since I don't actually use GB myself, perhaps others who do can chime in with what they know on this subject. :-)

Pretty sure this is GB-specific--I think Audacity just leaves them blank.

...Now I'm trying to remember for sure and I can't. Damn. Maybe I'll go check that.

This doesn't actually apply to me, since I always change my tags in iTunes before ULing, but this is a generally good heads up, so thanks!

Okay, so Audacity definitely leaves everything blank if you don't otherwise specify, except, weirdly, genre, which defaults to "Blues" (go figure).

So this is definitely GB-specific.

It's always annoyed me how Audacity never lets you enter your own genre; you have to select one from their drop-down list. It is, admittedly, rather extensive, but it (obviously) doesn't include "Podfic".

(Although I have to say, I would laugh forever if someone designated their podfic "Porn Groove". Which is an *actual option*. Which, in itself, kind of makes me LOL.)

Hm, that must have changed in the new beta version. I don't normally DL non-stable releases, but maybe I'll reconsider updating Audacity...

I always use GB for my podfic and I can't imagine anyone NOT changing their tags to match usernames and such but it's a good reminder in case people forget - I don't know about other people but I usually try to keep my fannish things and my real life things separate.

I change info obsessively in iTunes, so I actually caught it the first time around, but yeah, it's kind of sneaky of GB. >.>

I saw this and immediately thought, "Yup, that was me....seven or eight times....."

So, thank you once again, cybel, for helping me keep my Secret Internet Identity Mask on. ;-)

I've noticed this, but so far haven't figured out how to get the author name and the reader name to show up appropriately. Is there some secret to this, or am I missing something obvious?
Thanks cybel!

hi - I meant when I finish a project in GarageBand and under "share" (main menu at the top) I go to "send song to iTunes." It shows fields for artist name, composer name, and album name. I put the reader's online name for artist and the writer's online name for composer and have had problems (I don't remember exactly what's happened, it's been a while). Anyway, is that the best way to label it? Reader for Artist and Writer under Composer?
(If you don't have time to answer don't worry, I'll figure it out eventually.) <3
