No worries, I know how it goes with long podfic! I've got quite the queue piling up myself due to all the fantastic podbang entries. Hope you like it! :)
so it turns out I had a little time to myself over the holidays (yay) and listened to it already.
First thoughts: I adore your voice! It has this sort of -- chipper quality to it. A bit rascallish :D Anyway I was like "D: how come I missed this reader until now?! She's adorable~"
and yeah, interesting thing with listening to the fic after reading it. I was very surprised to realize that the dialogues didn't quite work for me read out loud -- not as a failing on your part, but in the way that, by reading, bringing them to closer to life -- to real, actual speech -- highlighted their -- constructedness? There was more than one instance where I caught myself thinking "wow, gosh, no-one talks like that! tl;dr, Merlin @_@", something I hadn't ever thought when reading it. Interesting media transition, that.
That doesn't mean I didn't like your reading, quite the opposite! The vibrance you bring to it tided me over the 'critical' long dialogue bits, and the recording was clear and impressively flawless, I couldn't help notice. Either that was some really tight editing or very smooth reading :D Plus I was psyched to discover you as a reader! I may have to raid your back ctalogue now. :3
Ahaha, it was mostly the editing, let me assure you. I'm usually a lot more forgiving of my little foibles in the recording process, although not to the point of letting it be distracting to the listener. But this time around, I buckled down to try and make everything absolutely perfect. I'm really happy it paid off!
Thanks so much for your comment, it put a big stupid grin on my face today. :D
And of course, I figure this out backward and, because I have so many darn RSS feeds set up to snag podfic, I am just now realizing that THIS is my amplificathon podbang gift!!!!! Holy crap! I am not worthy! But I will take it and be so very very happy, because accidentally or no, you picked one of my very favorite Merlin AUs and I remember the Arthur/Merlin fumblingness of it with excessive fondness! However, the excessive fondness is not accompanied by great clarity of memory about the rest of it, so it will be a bit like listening to this podfic for the first time! Oooh, I'm so excited. Thanks a million, revolutionaryjo!!!! You're the best!
It might take me a few days, but I will definitely send you my comments and favorite bits when I get a chance to listen to it. I'm saving it for when I have some time to fully devote myself to listening to it...thank you so much!
Oh my god you read the Merlin rowing!AU. Okay so, fun fact about this fic: I have probably sat down to read this like, three, maybe four times now, only to get interrupted EVERY SINGLE TIME. It has been on my to-read list FOREVER, and I cannot even tell you how glad I am to have a podfic of it because now I can listen to it away from my computer and it will be good and awesome and I AM SO EXCITE :DDD
I'll let you know what I think as soon as I finish listening!
I listened to this yesterday as I had a long train journey. I just love you performance of it- your delightful accent, and the steady, calm way in which you read. It perfectly complemented the dreamlike atmosphere of the story!
I dled a bundle of audio at random or from recs before I went overseas. And this one happened to come up on my iPod just a week before I actually went to Oxford as part of my tour of England. We toured Trinity College and I grinned so hard at the rowing awards spray-painted on the walls (even if it looks as if Trinity hasn't bumped anyone for quite a while). It really was fabulous timing and added to my enjoyment of the tour, so thanks! Loved your reading, especially as I tend not to read au's for myself.
I just wanted to tell you how much I've enjoyed your reading. Your inflection has me laughing out loud at times, grinning and aching and truly eking out each moment of the story. Your voice and your hard work have provided a lovely, relaxing afternoon for me today, and I'm sure I'll be saving this for many re-listens.
