and, since she was wonderful enough to provide one, an Author Testimonial from [livejournal.com profile] gyzym:

Here's the thing about writing: there really is no way to objectively evaluate your own work. You can go over it, of course, note words that are out of place and descriptions that fall short--you can love it or hate it, have an opinion about its quality, but at the end of the day, you wrote it. Your perceptions are tinged by that experience. So when [livejournal.com profile] speccygeekgrrl offered to audiofic the longest story I've ever written, the piece I've put the most work into out of all my fanfic, I was kind of nervous. I thought that listening to it would be an exercise in extreme self doubt.

Instead, it's been a joy. She handles everything so well that I often forget it's my story; I find myself caught up in the narrative and then feeling ridiculously egotistical for that. But the thing is, it's not ego; it's the voice she brings to the characters, the way she reads the humor and the emotional bits, the timing and sense of urgency and humanity she brings to the story. When I do recall that I wrote the damned thing, it's to go "Oh my god, how is possible that she could have nailed that so exactly true to the way they said it in my head?"

Everyone should download this. I recognize that from me, that probably sounds like I am tooting my own horn, but I do not think this story is some HIGH AND MIGHTY LITERARY WHATEVER. It's just--god, is it ever fun to listen to. She makes it fun to listen to. And if I, my own worst critic, desperately scrabbling for errors in my work as I hear it, think it's fun--well then shit, it'll be a blast for everyone else.

[livejournal.com profile] speccygeekgrrl is a goddess, and that is all I have to say about that.

♥ So listen to the author and please enjoy the hell out of this audiofic!

Wonderful job!!! I enjoyed this immensely!!! I left a gushing review for gyzym on her master post and now it's time to deal with you, missy.

What a wonderful voice you have for podfic!! I love your clear, even reading and you played the emotions of the scenes extremely well. I especially enjoyed having someone of your (apparent) youth reading about a grad school AU. I found that it added verisimilitude to the reading that I would have missed with a more mature sounding reader (like me).

I haven't listened to just a HUGE amount of Holmes/Watson, outside of Fayjay's reading of "Homo Ex Machina," which was a story I had already read and liked. I am, more and more, downloading stories I haven't read with my own two eyes. [So much excellent fic, so little time]. I'm very glad this podfic was one of them.

Great job!!!! I'm looking forward to hearing more of your stuff.

I've been craving more Sherlock Holmes podfic, so I look forward to listening to this! *downloads*

And thanks for providing the separate chapters, too (my mp3-player can't make bookmarks, so I appreciate having shorter files). If I could make a suggestion for the next time: it would be easier to download all the chapters if you put them in a folder, zipped it up, and uploaded it. : )

Wanted to let you know I completely adored your reading of this story, it was a complete joy to listen to. It was so funny, and you hit the emotional notes just right, and your stoned and manic Sherlock was perfect. Also John as the mildly despairing and fucked up but ultimately heroic guy was great. The scene with Sherlock and John outside the club where Sherlock questions John about paranoia was one you did strikingly well. I listened to it mostly overnight during a bout of insomnia, and it kept me company.. It makes me want to listen to more of your work, and thanks for taking the incredible amount of time it must have taken to record this.
