it's hard to be first. for one thing, it's a hell of a lot easier to screw things up when you don't have the example of other peoples' screw-ups to learn from. going first also means you're extra organized, and you're prepared. it means you care, because when you're willing to go first, you're making a statement: this endeavor is worthwhile.

oh, twasadark. i know i have already waxed rhapsodic about our big winner, but man, i can never manage to go first myself, and i think the ability to do so, and do so gracefully, is worth approbation. :D
