I wouldn't worry about the supposed censorship, if you haven't read the books. I noticed nothing lacking on watching the original miniseries, and I'd still give it ten out of ten stars. It's outstanding. However you can get your hands on it, just watch. So many shiny, shiny hearts. Also, the commentary by Armistead Maupin is cool and worth having. However: Even though it's on the first episode, DO NOT listen to the commentary until after you've seen the ENTIRE miniseries, because there are massive spoilers in it.
The second miniseries DVDs are most assuredly NOT censored for language, because one of the characters (my favorite, as it happens) can't open her mouth without saying "fuck" at least once, usually two or three times.
