A Very Happy Hitchhiker's Christmas, read by
argentumlupine,
elaineofshalott,
aethel,
andeincascade, and
inkjunket, written by
abstractconcept (Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Ford/Arthur, 26 min)
This is one of those podfics recorded in a room together at a con, and wow, I can really hear people having fun and playing off each other in the dialogue. The casting is great, too, and it's a charming story.
Falling Apart to Half-Time, read by
fandomfan, written by
miss_begonia (Generation Kill, Brad/Nate, 2 h 39 min)
I probably would not have read this, because I am picky about AU:s in GK, but I gave it a try when I saw it as a podfic, and wow, I am so not sorry.
fandomfan is a great reader who I'd love to see more from: expressive and with really good dialogue. There's some great use of music in this, too. If you're not into the fandom, you can still listen to this--it's a "So You Think You Can Dance"-style AU that engaged me much more than I expected.
Sixteen Days in September, read by
fandomfan,
podcath,
chemm80,
knight_tracer,
luzula,
dodificus, written by
tevere (Generation Kill, Brad/Nate with ensemble, 4 h 45 min)
I'm one of the readers here, but this is such a collaborative work that I don't feel like I'm self-reccing. This is the story that got me into the fandom, and I am so happy and proud that it is now a podfic! Most collaborative podfics split up the parts according to POV, but this one has the same POV read by many different people (it's split up by chapters). I'm surprised at how well it actually worked, and there are some great readers in this. I also really liked the sound effects Podcath put in as dividers. This is an AU, so you can listen to it without knowing the fandom.
An Avalanche of Detours, read by
magicranberries, written by
gyzym (Sherlock BBC, Molly Hooper/Greg Lestrade, 5 h 17 min)
I enjoyed this very much, both the reading and the story. I only listen to a small fraction of the Sherlock podfic out there--it's not really a fandom I'm in--and I do enjoy listening to something where Sherlock is in the periphery. *g* I admit I have hardly seen enough episodes to know who Molly Hooper is, but after listening to this I really cared about her!
The Blog of Eugenia Watson, written by
madlorific, read by
lunchee (Sherlock BBC, mostly OFC-centric, over ten hours!)
Lunchee makes me want to listen to hours and hours about the teenage Eugenia Watson, who is the daughter of John and an OFC (and Sherlock, by adoption). She just makes the character completely come to life and captures her personality and makes you care about her from the start. I do like that Eugenia's mom has a major role in the fic, too.
Chicago's Most Wanted, read by
bessyboo and
moonling, written by
cesperanza (due South, Fraser/Kowalski, 4 h 29 min)
This story feels like it was made for performing (well, really it feels like it was made to be filmed, I think), and Bessy makes the most of it, sounding like she was born to read Ray Kowalski. Moonling as Benton Fraser is appropriately more toned down, but also great. There are also some other readers coming in to do reporters and the like, which works well. I thoroughly enjoyed this! ETA: Now with link!
The Shapeshifter Series, read by
helens78, written by
luzula (due South, Fraser/Kowalski, Fraser/Victoria, Bob/Caroline, 2 h 36 min)
I'm a bit torn here, because I love Helens' reading, and the podfics of hers that I really want to rec are stories that were written by me. But whatever: what I really want to rec is her performance of my stories, so I'm going to go ahead and rec them. These are basically werewolf stories, and I was quite fond of them before, but she made me experience the stories like they were all new and shiny, and it really made me happy for weeks. I was literally doing Paul Gross arms and squeeing out loud when I listened to her reading! There are several different characters and POV:s in these stories, and Helens does them all justice, from Bob Fraser to Victoria.
