This is a sequal to Gerard Way's Vampire Detective Agency which is pretty much the fic that got me into bandom. If you want to listen to that, [personal profile] pandarus's lovely recording is here

Beta by [personal profile] dodificus, who once again, I appear to have asked to beta in a fandom she does not follow. She was wonderful, fast, patient and supportive. I can't say how much she improved this recording.

This is the second longest podfic I've ever recorded, and I had a lot of fun doing it. I love the worldbuilding in it, all the little touches that really immersed me in the story. As I recorded, I found I go so much more out of it, and loved different characters more. I didn't realise, on the first reading, just how much the female characters had to do, but by the end I just ADORED Greta. Ray and Bob were amazing (and I really hope I captured how scary Bob can be) and just, yes. It was a totally different experience performing the story than just sitting down and reading it. I love it even more, now.

One odd thing I noticed, and had to stop myself doing, was how much I'd been influenced by FayJay's reading of the first part of the series, "Gerard Way's Vampire Detective Agency". Fay has a very distinctive rhythm to her reading that I don't have, but it kept sneaking in. I think you can sometimes hear it in Frank's conversations with Dewees?

(The intro/outro music is "The Boys are too Refined" by The Hush Sound. Greta is such a part of the fic it felt right to use her music, and the lyrics made me smile : The boys who kiss and bite/they are the brilliant ones who speak and write/with silver luck. Of course, it's totally about Ryan, but I thought in the context of the fic it worked for Pete too.)

Anyway, that was a long ramble! I really how you enjoy the fic, and I'd really appreciate knowing what you thought!

A friend of mine started reading this fic when it was posted and immediately said "I wish there were a podfic!" because we'd both enjoyed your reading of Gerard Way's Vampire Detective Agency SO MUCH. I haven't read this and I'm really looking forward to it. <3

You know, I never read and almost never listen to bandom, but I love FayJay's work, so the one bit of it I've ever heard is Gerard Way's Vampire Detective Agency, and I'm perfectly willing to follow where you lead as well, as I know this podfic will be of superb quality. After all, your musical Inception podfic was a gateway drug for that fandom, and I've never regretted it! Downloading right this minute....

I really enjoyed your reading of this fic! I admit I almost stopped listening at one point--I mean, I love the worldbuilding in this fic, but I'm not in bandom, so the huge cast was confusing me. But your reading made me stay with it. I love the variations in your pacing, sometimes fast and then sometimes pausing for effect. I also love your expressive dialogue.

The time that you listed and the time that cybel listed are different by nearly an hour. I didn't download either of them because I'm downloading other pods right now, so I just made each archive entry reflect what was given on each post. So that should probably get updated at some point, unless the audiobook version really is that much longer?? /slightly confused Fish

I have listened to this so many times now that I can't read the story without hearing your voice. Some parts especially - Schetcher's "Eyes closed!" to Greta, Mikey's whined "Moooom," when Donna makes him do the three most important parts, and especially Frank's "So you fashioned an impromptu ham necklace" which makes me giggle.

Throughout the course of this podfic you make me laugh and smile, and cry, and love so much, the characters and their interactions - Frank's grief, Dewees' helplessness, Gerard's determination, Mikey and Pete struggling toward...something, Lindsey and Jamia and all the characters that you so lovingly bring to life.

I want to say more, to express just a fraction of the joy and happiness this podfic brings, but I just don't know how. I'm sorry.

I'm slowly working my way through your and FayJay's podfics of this series (there is quite a lot of it, you will admit, so it will take me a while), and this is CHARMING AS HELL. I can't believe how much I love every minute of it. The opening notes grabbed me (that may be one of my favorite songs in the entire universe), and all of the characters' voices, and the depth of emotion you bring to the story, kept me engrossed until the last syllable. Can't wait to listen to more!
