no, really, we're almost at the end.

so, a little mopping up.

first, prizewise!

[livejournal.com profile] leviticus_lied's anthologies actually include a back cover, which didn't make it into the original post, but is here now. feel free to save it from below and tuck it into the file you have already downloaded, or if you haven't downloaded yet, the files without a back cover have been replaced by the files with a back cover. the graphic is by the lovely ms [livejournal.com profile] trialia.

back cover with tracklisting

and this is also a note to say that [livejournal.com profile] leviticus_lied will also be receiving one more prize podfic, delivered privately, donated by [livejournal.com profile] general_jinjur.

mailed prizes will go out soon after the not-very organized third of [livejournal.com profile] podmod gets her damn act together. (we're not naming names, but her initials are gj. just sayin'.)

okay. second, otherwise.

this is the end of the prize posting. really, honestly, stick a fork in me, next time when we say two week prize period, we will mean it (we have a plan).

we are considering a mini-fest sometime in the fall/winter. we will be happening again next year, on the same schedule. there will be some changes, nothing dramatic, we'll tell you about them then.

keep posting and reccing here in the meantime. and hey! you know all those new readers who stepped up during the [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon? if you listened to their stuff, take a look and make sure they got some sort of feedback. at some point. on at least one recording. i mean, can we all decide to leave one piece of feedback so no one is left shouting into the void? because shouting into the void kind of sucks. and i know everyone wants to get better at this (even the people who are old hands at it), and feedback can be really hard to get on podfic.

today's winner! for the blipvert award - leviticus_lied!

so one of the aims of the [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon was to introduce diversity into the podfic available in fandom. we mostly did that by pushing for more fandoms - the happy accident was diversity in story types. most ficathons have a 1,000 word minimum - which means that a lot of the rare pairings are mostly short stories, ficlets, and drabbles, topping off at around 1,000 to 2,000 words. most of the podfics recorded prior to this challenge were much, much longer than that. i mean honestly, you can't swing a cat without hitting an epic in spn and sga. that makes it a little tough to let readers or listeners dip into the format, and the amount of time commitment for anything over 4,000 words gets crazy fast, and approaches exponential at some point (yes, i once recorded a nineteen hour long podfic. i had to do a lot of wacky and improbable things to make that possible, and i try not to think about how much working time it actually took. if we want more podfic in the world, that isn't a sustainable model). short fics are manageable and actually help reflect the reality of the extant written fics! okay, i'm not sure i'm making sense, but: <3.

one of the beauties of a drabble or ficlet is the economy of words, and the demonstration of the skill it takes to convey a story in a tiny space. pulling the reader into your universe for half a breath at a time. reading those stories is a challenge, and i think it's pretty awesome that people were willing to give it a shot.

[livejournal.com profile] leviticus_lied managed the very shortest of these palm-of-the-hand stories, at 47 seconds (she had a close competitor at 50 seconds!)

finally! sorry again about the delay!

when we say this thing was a close race, boy, we mean this thing was a close race. i'll admit it - i thought [livejournal.com profile] leviticus_lied had this sucker in the bag. a brand-new reader! reading in a wide variety of new fandoms! taking requests and suggestions by the armload! it's kind of like we had two first place winners, almost! it was awesome.

just kidding. sort of.

the last of the prizes will be posted next week. we're waiting on a couple of things (to be clear - NO ONE has let us down on anything they've volunteered to do, which is amazing and awesome - but there have been unforseen snags with a few donated prize items) still, and expect them then. :)

today's winner! for the intrepid award - twasadark!

it's hard to be first. for one thing, it's a hell of a lot easier to screw things up when you don't have the example of other peoples' screw-ups to learn from. going first also means you're extra organized, and you're prepared. it means you care, because when you're willing to go first, you're making a statement: this endeavor is worthwhile.

oh, [livejournal.com profile] twasadark. i know i have already waxed rhapsodic about our big winner, but man, i can never manage to go first myself, and i think the ability to do so, and do so gracefully, is worth approbation. :D

today's winner! for the emissary award - leviticus_lied!

hah! it's tomorrow. :)

the main aim of the [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon was to introduce diversity into the podfic available in fandom. this was the whole point of the points system - to make the rare valuable. the lack of fandom/pairing diversity seemed easily correctable - after all, the dominance of sg:a & spn are something that was inherent to podfic, not to the extant body of available fic. it would have been pretty easy, given that point system, to just pick an unrepresented, crossover-friendly fandom and churn through the work of a couple of prolific authors.

the emissary award is for adhering to the spirit of the challenge, not just the letter.

[livejournal.com profile] leviticus_lied introduced the largest number of new fandoms to the challenge. (this is where you can imagine your [livejournal.com profile] podmod face-palming a LOT. as i went through and tallied how many she did. on a piece of scrap paper. which i can't find now. it was lots, though. )

leviticus_lied wins the emissary award!

today's winner! for the fashionably late award - malnpudl!

you know what we love, hereabouts? new readers. a high percentage of participants were new readers from the start, and we expected and encouraged that. seeing all of the late entrants was a fantastic thing as well, but i have to admit that we didn't really promote the challenge much after it started, and we didn't manage to figure out a way to reward participants for seducing new readers in to podficcing. as a consequence, the late entrants came in to an ongoing challenge as outsiders. that takes extra fortitude, and it's awesome.

but anyhow. you know what we especially love? people who finally talk themselves into trying podfic two weeks before the end of the challenge with no expectation of winning anything, who then manage to place fourth. :D

[livejournal.com profile] malnpudl's first post was made on may 25, in the last two weeks of the challenge. she managed to earn two hundred and fifty-two points, and the fashionably late award!

an explanation for the weird prize order, and some winner appreciation!

okay, so you may have noticed two things today!

(1) part of [livejournal.com profile] podmod has today off of work.
(2) this week we posted the prize for first place, and the prize for third place, and some other prizes, but we skipped second place.

okay, well, to address item number 2: we're waiting on a couple of items to roll in before we can make the post celebrating [livejournal.com profile] leviticus_lied's big win. BUT! that doesn't mean we can't just make a random post in the meantime celebrating [livejournal.com profile] leviticus_lied!

of the top three winners, [livejournal.com profile] leviticus_lied was the only one new to podfic recording. and that makes her achievements extra amazing. and this didn't go unnoticed, by the [livejournal.com profile] podmod team or by her fellow participants - in fact, arriving in the [livejournal.com profile] podmod inbox just the other day, totally unsolicited, was this graphic made for [livejournal.com profile] leviticus_lied in appreciation of her amazing summer of podfic, created by [livejournal.com profile] runpunkrun with cheerleading from [livejournal.com profile] iamsab.

thank you for your patience, [livejournal.com profile] leviticus_lied! your official prizes will be ready soon! also: hooray for you!

today's winner! for the whisky & lemon award - twasadark!

there were a couple of readers during the [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon who posted a lot. and there were a couple of readers who recorded some long fics. and there were quite a few who racked up a lot of recording time in the course of those two activities.

[livejournal.com profile] twasadark, though, kind of left everyone else in the dust. i mean, she recorded three and three-quarters hours more than the next most prolific reader! crazy! i know we're all damned grateful that she was so generous competitive generous with her podfic creating skills. :D

[livejournal.com profile] twasadark recorded a grand total of twelve hours, forty-four minutes, and twenty-two seconds of podfic for this challenge, easily winning the whisky & lemon award!

addenda to yesterday's winner post! another prize for jadesfire2808!

hey! so i wasn't quite organized enough to get this into place to include it in yesterday's post celebrating [livejournal.com profile] jadesfire2808, but better late than never!

as part of her prize package for placing in the top three [livejournal.com profile] amplicathon finishers, [livejournal.com profile] jadesfire2808 chose a podfic to be recorded for her as a gift (and bonus! this is also a gift for the rest of us). [livejournal.com profile] iamsab volunteered to create the prize, and recruited her sister, [livejournal.com profile] spycookies, to help record it.

today's winner! the third place bronze medal top points award - jadesfire2808!

you know the cool thing about the race for points? that the top three points earners were in the lead together through most of the challenge - but between those three? it was up in the air until the last possible second. all three readers were prolific and made diverse, dynamic choices that made the whole shebang one hell of a race. i'm pretty glad that we always planned to give prizes for all three of the top finishers, because all three of them really earned it.

today's winner! for the case discount award - cadeira!

crossovers were an easy mark for the [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon. we were aware going in that they were the fastest way to gain points, and that was fine by us - after all, mega-crossovers are the love-in of fandom. in theory, they can drive interest in new source material from one group to the next, and they also allow people who've moved on to new fandoms a chance to indulge in nostalgia by smooshing their current love/s together with (an) old love/s. or they can just be total ott crack.

the [livejournal.com profile] podmod team was actually a little surprised that we didn't wind up with more of these - after all, the challenge of how many possible points you could earn with a single entry was fun (once you worked out the math)(unless the math is the fun part for you)!

[livejournal.com profile] cadeira recorded metastasis, which garnered her a whopping thirty-eight points, and won her the case discount award!

today's winner! the gmt-11 award - greyonblue!

one of the fun parts of a challenge is the rush to get things in by the deadline, and the [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon was no exception. we did a little sleight of hand in the interest of deadline fairness - after all, "midnight on june 2" really doesn't mean the same thing to everyone - and we'd hoped that people would make the most of it. and they did! there's something fantastic about that final push, the rush to get in just under the wire. that's the part where the challenge turns into a race against time.

[livejournal.com profile] greyonblue won that race! she, along with the other posters up past their local midnights, pushed through to the last moment and gave us all more podfic! [livejournal.com profile] greyonblue wins the gmt-11 award, for posting closest to midnight in american samoa!

today's winner! the first place gold medal top points award - twasadark!

so the very first award conceived for this challenge was this one: first place, the top point-earning participant. i have to admit, though, we never really expected the points to get so high, or for the race for first to stay neck and neck until the very last minute. it was so exciting! and a bit of a last-minute upset, too, like all great contests.

with a total of sixty two stories read, earning SIX HUNDRED AND EIGHTY THREE points, [livejournal.com profile] twasadark is our overall [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon winner!

twasadark wins firts place!

i think it's appropriate here to take a moment to recognize something else that [livejournal.com profile] twasadark excelled at throughout this challenge: encouraging other readers (and the mods). we all know it takes energy to pat each other on the back, and i know that we all try - and sometimes we can manage it, and sometimes we can't. [livejournal.com profile] twasadark really went above and beyond, making good suggestions, helpful comments, and piping up with awesome cheerleading. so. we don't have a prize for that. but here you go! international recognition: [livejournal.com profile] twasadark is fully and completely made of awesome.

today's winner! for the lindworm award - shadowkittykat_!

okay, it's time to get this train moving again!

it became very obvious to the [livejournal.com profile] podmod team, very quickly, that we didn't just need to have winners based on points earned - because people were doing remarkable things left and right, and they deserve recognition. and also, a little bit, because one third of the podmod team went a little nutty thinking about the possibilities, and, well, the other two thirds seem to have given up on reining her in. there's a whole give-her-enough-rope lesson here, but i say we ignore that in favor of announcing our first award winner!

[livejournal.com profile] shadowkittykat_ wins the lindworm award!

shadowkittykat_ wins the lindworm award!

the lindworm award is for the reader submitting the largest single podfic recording during the course of the [livejournal.com profile] amplificathon. [livejournal.com profile] shadowkittykat_'s dresden files recording, strange devices, clocked in at over five hours, a heroic length! (a lindworm is a big scandinavian dragon seaserpenty thing. and this award was named by...someone. who remarked that some participants were recording real lindworms! and i kind of thought that was awesome and stole it. was it you? please pipe up, for award-naming credit. eta: it was [livejournal.com profile] podfic_lover! she said: In scandinavian and european tales a lindworm is a gigantic draconic, often limbless serpent that needs to be defeated by a hero. And when you see what long stories some readers finished, it's in my opinion an act of bravery and a proof of determination and dedication.. and she was right!)

[livejournal.com profile] shadowkittykat_'s prizes include the lovely graphic seen above, donated by [livejournal.com profile] liviapenn, and a recorded-to-order podfic, donated by [livejournal.com profile] laurie_ky! the podfic will be posted here later this evening.
