sga: a beautiful lifetime event, by shalott (variety pack!! with bonus scene by resonant!!!)

so [livejournal.com profile] anatsuno and i both wanted to record this (actually, we very often have the same things on our lists), and we decided why not both do it! and let people choose, depending on the day, if they want to listen to the sexy french-accented version, or, um, the other one. :p

so here you go. play them simultaneously at your own risk. \o/

This is wonderful! I adore this story and can't believe you have recorded it. Thank you so much

So, I have a list somewhere of stories that I REALLY REALLY want to have podfics of, and am generally perplexed that none yet exist. And this story, WAY towards the top of my list (#1 being Speranza's "Weddings, Plural, and a Yak", but [livejournal.com profile] anatsuno and I have already spoken of this).

And now I have TWO versions. Wonderous!

Oh, wow, I love this fic! (It's what got me into the SGA fandom, actually.) I'm so glad someone finally podficced it, and the fact that there's two makes it even better! Thank you so much, the both of you! :D

Thank you! Downloading both versions as m4b audiobooks and the bonus too!

Yay - this is the story that got me into SGA fandom!

One of my all-time favorite stories read by 2 of my favorite readers?

WIN.

One of my favs Yeah

[identity profile] ellex42.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
So much yay! I will, in fact, listen to both versions. But which to listen to first? Such a difficult decision!

Actually, I really appreciate the choice, because as sexy and wonderful as [livejournal.com profile] anatsuno's French accent is, and as great a reader as she is - for this American listener, it's occasionally just a little distracting from the story. Especially if it's a very long story.

Thank you both!

Urgh...rereading what I just posted, it sounds awful. The fault is not with [livejournal.com profile] anatsuno's accent - the fault is with my poor ears and brain. I sometimes have trouble understanding even other English-speakers if their accent is markedly different from my own.

tongue tongue tonge! I feel that I should seek out stories with lots of tongues in it just for you, now.

(not creepy at all! I also like the way I say tongue. and cock. these two might be my favorite fic-words to read, even.)

[identity profile] ellex42.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
I kind of like it when you say 'cock', too. It's the way you make the 'k' sound very strong at both beginning and end, and the way the 'o' sounds very round.

*blushes*

podfic conversations are weiiiiiiird sometimes, huh? but lovely too! heheh.

[identity profile] ellex42.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, that's exactly what I meant! In fact, just last week I was listening to the due South podfic of "Untune the Sky", read by [livejournal.com profile] dodificus and [livejournal.com profile] podfic_lover. I was listening while I was at work, and I just couldn't do both at the same time, because every time the readers switched, my ears had to relearn to listen to them all over again. It was driving me nuts!

But later, I went home and listened to it while making dinner, while eating dinner, and then while sitting in the dark with a happy cat on my lap, and it was simply wonderful.

Mmmmm...Hewlett's mouth and hands do the same thing to me. I've been known to pause the DVD just to examine the tilt of his lips or the position of his fingers.

I won't lie, when I read it at first it stung a little bit. But you know, I'm a listener too, even more than I am a recorder/reader, and I have definite turn ons and turn offs in voices/accents/readings, and more than that, I have stuff that definitely make it harder for me to follow the story - and I don't control that, I didn't choose it, it's nothing personal against the podficcer at all. So, like the big girl wot I try to be, I breathed in and let it go. We all have likes and dislikes! whatever the reason, it's not for me to be offended at. It just is. I'm glad you felt you could say it out loud, too, cos I don't like it when people feel like they have to stifle their discourse for politeness' sake.

Thank you, too, for the nice things you did say. <33

((hugs you))

I'm so sorry I made you feel bad! But what [livejournal.com profile] general_jinjur said hits closer to the mark of what I meant to say. I often listen to podfic at work, and your accent - lovely though it is, and your pronunciation is often better than some native English speakers - requires more attention from me. So then I have to choose between listening and working.

And there are a few podficcers, who are native English speakers, whom I can't bear to listen to, for various reasons.

So the great thing about having "A Beautiful Lifetime Event" in podfic form recorded by you and by [livejournal.com profile] general_jinjur is that while I'm working I can listen to her. And when I have some time to just listen without being distracted by work, I will listen to you. And believe me, I will enjoy both versions very much.

That's so interesting, because I love her accent -- I find it really easy to understand, which is so relaxing. (tho' accent is almost too strong a word, I can only marvel at her beautiful & careful pronunciation). Being German myself, I'm really glad there's this variety, because I find American accents generally hardest to listen to -- for some reason, I find some ESL, Aussie and New Zealand accents easiest to parse. Which makes it all the more cool that there are two versions! (tho' I can understand jinjur v. well too by now :D)

hah, if you insist on reading such interesting fic, what can I to do but adapt?! :P

[identity profile] ellex42.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Enunciation FTW!

Actually, you are one of my favorite readers, because your accent is pretty close to the kind I hear around me every day.

Oh man, this is my FAVOURITE FANFIC EVER! It's been on my own to-record list for a long time, and now there are versions that I can listen to and enjoy (because I can't listen to my own recordings with the same kind of enjoyment)! \o/
