amplificathon | Podfic Broken Telephone Reveals

HI Y'ALL

After six months of hard work and secret recordings,

idella and I are thrilled to announce that Podfic Broken Telephone is LIVE.

PBT was an experimental podfic challenge that treated podfic as a prompt. Person A recorded a podfic. Person B received that podfic, pulled out at least one "key" element, and used that as a prompt for their podfic. Person C received Person B's podfic, and all the way down until we ran out of participants. No one knew what podfics or podficcers had come before their prompt, or what was made after theirs.

To keep run time to under six months, we ran three chains simultaneously, which all ran the full length of the challenge and which all started with the same podfic. Check out everyone's hard work here! Every chain turned out completely differently.

Watch for updates to this post for links to MP3 zips and podbooks! We ran a little behind schedule putting those together, but wanted to reveal the chains today anyway.

We'd also like to invite you to post any meta about this in the comments below! The challenge was run primarily by email and included people from all over fannish platforms, and this is where we're hoping to let everyone come together to talk about the experience.

This was SUPER fun, and it is SO INTERESTING looking at all the chains! So many of them seem to have little connection by fandom, tags, and summary alone, so it'll be so cool to listen and see what carried over!

This is super exciting! I didn't sign up for this round since I knew I realistically wouldn't be able to wrangle enough time to participate properly, but I absolutely love the concept. Even just reading through the tags and summaries and trying to work out the common thread between each link in the chain is so much fun, and I can't wait to start listening. :D

(FYI, though, it looks like there's still an unrevealed work in Chain 2?)

I started listening to chain 1 yesterday and was falling asleep to The Law Runneth Forward and Back, sleepily thinking "huh, how does this connect to Project Runway... AHHHHH IT'S BECAUSE ANXIETY!!" SO GOOD

It was such a fun podfic-prompt! I'm afraid it didn't convince me to watch Slings and Arrows, but it did convince me to finally read Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, which is amazing, so thank you for that!

I'm so glad it was a good prompt for you! (the first season of S&A is only 6 episodes and imo very worth it, but I can rest well satisfied that my podfic got you to read that book and that you enjoyed it)

(I haven't actually listened to the chain yet, but just looking at the summaries, I get the impression that both Shakespeare and ghosts are...sticky.)
