Summary: Living in Hawai'i is expensive, especially when you're still paying a mortgage on a house back in Jersey. When things get to be too much, Danny has to make a hard decision. The hardest part is keeping the rest of the team from finding out that he's homeless.

Recorded as part of [livejournal.com profile] help_japan for the lovely [livejournal.com profile] cybel. ♥

Thank you also to my wonderful betas, [livejournal.com profile] lunate8 and [livejournal.com profile] yashakizu who jumped in on short notice. :)

I decided to be experimental (at least for me) with this one! I've never used music in a podfic before, but for this I felt like a ukelele cover was a necessary inclusion somehow. (When is it not?) The song is obviously I Can't Help Falling In Love With You and the cover is by Erin Lang. I'm grateful she had the foresight to record a ukelele cover of this song before I went looking for one. If it hadn't existed, I would have had to make friends with a ukelele player very quickly. Luckily, it all worked out.

I also went after the characters' speech patterns and accents more aggressively than usual. It's hard not to fall into Danny's accent when you're just trying to emulate his speech pattern, so I went for broke. Hopefully it's not total rubbish.

All in all, a great fic that I liked more and more as I worked on it. I probably wouldn't have run across it were it not for [livejournal.com profile] cybel, so many thanks to her for requesting it. Go leave faviconjames some feedback at the AO3 if you have the chance. :)

So very much looking forward to this, as I am a fan of both your podfic work and Hawaii Five-0, it will be interesting to hear what you do with the music...downloading now...

Lost at the Edge is exceptional!

Just finished listening to this today on my bike ride home from work, and wow, it's great! I just loved it to bits. I particularly liked your Danny slight Jersey accent, as I spent the first 14 years of my life in New Jersey, and it's nice to hear it a little. Great subtle diffentiation in all the voices, perfect pacing and weight to what you wanted to give emphasis to. Had a nice relaxed feel to listen to, not rushed at all. No sound errors and great sound quality (no extra noises.) I found myself very much liking the story, thought it different and believable - you get the sense that the way Danny reacts is sort of the way someone would, in his shoes....I don't know how to describe the way you read this exactly, but it's with a sort of kindly sympathy toward the flaws of the characters that is pleasant to listen to. And the ukelele music! It is so sweet! Felt like a perfect match for the story, wistful but sort of cheery, too. Overall, excellent work (as always!) Thank you for recording this.

I've never watched Hawaii Five-0 and I've never read a fanfic in the fandom, but I'm DL-ing anyway, because I am a (usually) silent stalker of your work, and I can't imagine it not being well worth my time. I ♥ your voice and your approach to fic. Can't wait to listen!

Judging from these comments, I have plenty to look forward to when listening to this podfic. Love the Hawaii 5 0 fandom & this fic is amazing so, I'm sure I will end up loving your reading of it.

Thank you!

Oh wow, so so excited right now - this was one of the first H50 fics I read and it still ranks right up there as one of my personal favs. Thanks SO MUCH for sharing!

ROTFL! I literally just finished reading this last night, LOL! And I was thinking, 'Gee, wouldn't this be a good one to listen to.' Now, I absolutely have to dl and take a listen.

So, let's see now... I love this story, I adore your voice... a match made in heaven, lol!

Thanks!!

I really loved your reading of this story, smooth and clear, and you really made me feel for Danny, his reluctance to have to admit to his team that he's in trouble. I listened while I was driving for work, and even though the trip (hour and a half) turned out to be a wild goose chase, I was spellbound the entire time, so I didn't begrudge the time at all.

Thanks for recording, and I enjoyed the music, too.

That was wonderful! I love your diction and voice, and the story you chose is brilliant. Podfics make the world a better place. :-)
