Podbang: how's everyone getting along?

Hi people!

This isn't an official post or anything, but given we're just over 2 months away from podbang submission day, I thought i'd make a post to see how y'all were doing! Have you started recording yet? (I've only done one of mine 2 podbangs, but I figure I've got time!) Have you finished recording? (In which case I'm very impressed and not a little jealous!). How are do getting along finding a fic to record-this took me AGES!

Do you need help? How can we as a community help each other? Betas are lifesavers for long podfic (ilu betas!) so post in the comments and see if someone can help you out!

Go go team Podbang!

(Man, there are a lot of exclamation marks in this post)

Well, after a lot of worrying I finally found a fic to record for my personal assignment. It's... sort of a different fic, so I hope my recipient is ok with it but I adore it to pieces and am super excited to record it :D I have part 1 of 3 recorded and will work on editing it this weekend (I made the rule that I have to edit one part before recording the next otherwise I'll put off editing forever).

However for my group assignment we still haven't found a fic. It's making me nervous, especially since the fandoms for this one aren't ones I'm in.

Well, the other members of my group are in the fandom we've decided to choose a fic from so I've basically told them they have to choose the fic, I'll go along with whatever. I'm just having trouble keeping on the side lines. Probably because this is the exact opposite situation I was in last year. We had the group fic chosen the day we got the assignment where as I struggled and struggled with my personal assignment (I ended up going to [livejournal.com profile] podmod on my knees and got a different assignment :S).

And last year, mostly by chance, we found a fic that worked amazingly well for 3 voices. Now we're trying to find another fic that would work as well and that's been the major limiting factor. And just when we thought we had one, it turns out it featured something that our recipient said she didn't like :(

Still, if we don't get something soon, I might start appealing to my flist or something.

I have my story picked out, but I haven't started recording yet.

I am stupidly excited about podbang this year. :D I actually found a fic rather quickly, and it's one I really adore, and I'm about halfway through recording already! But I still have a long way to go to finish it. It's rather long and my love of it overwhelmed my common sense. So it goes with podfic.

Mine is luckily not quite that long, but long enough to worry me. Especially when it comes down to crunch time in November. Eek.

I have a short list of stories! I've been distracted by other projects, but I'm just about ready to start turning my attention to podbang.

If we could sort out some kind of beta system, that would be fantastic! I know that I'm going to need it. Please let me know if You can help organize that!

Ha, that's an awesome typo. I meant to volunteer myself to help with betas, not you!

I have 3 of 8 parts recorded, and plan to record part 4 this weekend. I need to edit part 2.

Parts 1 and 3 have been sent to the beta listener.

I thought I'd found a story, but this week I finally read it all the way through and realized it had one of my recipient's do-not-want story elements. I'll be renewing my search efforts this weekend. :)

That totally happened to me! Actually, it's lucky I caught it, because my recipient had used an unfamiliar acronym to say she wasn't really interested in that factor and I thought it referred to something else entirely. Thank god for fanlore!

Found a perfect story (serendipitously, one I've been meaning to podfic for years), have permission, am going to start recording as soon as my voice stops sounding wonky. :)

Found a story, got the author okay, am banging my head against the wall because the word count is sort of outside of my free time price range -- you know, the usual :)
I would dearly love a podfic beta, but it's a huge ask just due to the sheer length of it, plus I'm not sure if I would be able to get one with the fandom I'm reading for!

they wouldn't need to be, but that seems a bit horrible! Asking someone to listen and take notes for a podfic in a fandom they don't even like I mean :O

I took a while to choose mine. A dissonance when comparing my baseline fic preoccupations to my recipient's, I think. I've not yet reached the stage of feeling my overcommitment keenly, but I have overcommitted on purpose. I always grumble and bitch about completing things, because I always feel I can complete them in a day, maybe two. This will be something over 14 hours, at which point I hope that I've pushed my editing speed and lack-of-boredom up from the very poorly starting point. And also, my brain can't make the procrastination make sense.

(Knowing this was an ambitious idea from the start, I've got 1/3rd of a backup fic recorded, because I turn to that when something mucks up on the podbang proper. It's got a much simpler reading style for me than my main, so it's a relaxing and unstressful change. The really bang!podbang is the first where I've had to make pronunciation and emphasis notes.)

I'd be really interested in a beta, especially rather soon, so I can send the first hour off and figure out the entire thing is slow or something and change my methods. I can probably beta as well, though I haven't podbeta'd before.

I've got one third of the story recorded and am feeling confident. :)

Is there a rule against doing a podfic of something that has already been recorded? I'm still looking, but there's this perfect fic calling out to me!
