ah, plans. somehow they never really work out the way i intend. this post was meant to go up wednesday, DAYS before the sixth annual amplificathon was formally announced! but no, it's going up after that announcement. but that's okay! because i have things to share from the audiofic archive! NEWS.

if you've been by recently, you will have noticed a few changes!

this got wordy, so: a cut )

there are more changes coming, but that's the basic update!

now for some fun facts found from fest fixing!

- there is no dominic monaghan/billy boyd in the archive AT ALL. i'm shocked by this.
- there are 2238 separate relationship tags in the archive.
- this year we made all the relationships with 300 or more podfics 1-point-'ships. that's six pairings.
- all six pairings are white dude/white dude. :/
- okay, this isn't actually a fact, but wouldn't it be awesome if we could get even one lady and/or poc into the top relationships? with actual substantial works? amplificathon is about getting diversity into the audiofic archive, after all. :)
hey, in case you were curious, the numbers on those top relationship tags: )
- i didn't actually tally how many fandoms there are in the archive, and since it's a multi-level hierarchy i can't figure it out easily. lots?
- when we were working through how to define a giant fandom last week, though, i pulled out every fandom with more than one hundred podfics in the archive. and then i made [personal profile] aphelant try to guess the list while i laughed at her. not that i would have been able to guess either, since the results were pretty surprising.
- honestly, i'm pretty floored that we wound up with TWO rpf fandoms in the final "giant fandom" list, which we decided to make a top five list (also, for the purposes of not making it a top six list, we called spn and spn rpf one fandom. they are both giant, even uncombined, so.)
- no really, this list FASCINATED us. not least because the order of the big fandoms wasn't really a great direct prediction of the big relationships. some fandoms focus hard on a very small number of 'ships! some fandoms have characters who really get around, if you know what i mean.

if you are interested in the breakdown, here it is - the 21 (or 22, depending on how you count it) best-represented fandoms in the archive. )

so. all the news that i could get typed before my brain turned to mush. :D

I have been informed by [personal profile] general_jinjur that I should post/link to my podfic-related meta here at amplificathon. So… here they be, for anyone interested in *THOUGHTS*:

On Listening

A semi-long ramble about my personal podfic-listening habits have changed, how to me, podfics are not audiobooks, how beauty =/= perfection, and how my perceptions of podfic have changed over the last 2 years.

Confessions of a Podficcer with a (mostly) ex-speech impediment

A totally personal meta on how having a speech impediment as I was growing up has affected my podficcing, and how podficcing has affected my attitudes towards my own voice.

I'd like to clarify that this is in no way an attack on fanlore, the editors, users or gardeners there. This is my response to the conversations going on at the fail fandom anon meme (ETA: Don't read this unless you're feeling really thick skinned)

If you would like further information on what prompted the anon meme thread, Paraka has described the issues with fanlore much better than I in her post Podfic Entries On Fanlore

After the success of last year's [community profile] pod_aware, I've started the preliminary planning for this year's round. Right now there are brain storming posts up at the comm to talk about which topics should be covered, please drop by and share your thoughts.

For my rec post here on Amplirecathon today, I am highlighting three podfic artists recording actively in the Avengers fandom who are new(ish) and/or haven’t yet gotten the attention I feel they deserve. All three record in other fandoms, as well, which I will list in their individual recs.

These three podficcers are doing some really incredible work, and yet a glance at their ao3 kudos or LJ comments suggests that not many people know it (or, at least, aren’t communicating that they know it, which we know happens a lot amongst podfic listeners). All three are excellent in overlapping but different ways, and I am drawn to each of them for different reasons.

Head below the cut to see who they are, and to read why I find them compelling. )

Hello podfic lovers/makers/shakers/movers!

I come bearing an announcement: as of yesterday, the Podfic Platypus meme is up and running and eagerly awaiting your podfic related humorous snippets. :)

As with [twitter.com profile] fanficflamingo, on which it is modeled, there is a related twitter account at [twitter.com profile] podficplatypus if that helps you keep track, and of course the Tumblr account is at [tumblr.com profile] fuckyeahpodficplatypus.

To submit jokes, hie thee to http://memegenerator.net/Podfic-Platypus/ and make them there, then save the image to your drive and go submit/upload it to the Tumblr (following the submission rules, of course).

Anon subs should be enabled so you don't have to have a Tumblr or to identify yourself to play! (Tumblr asks for an email I think, but you can put any fake address in, I think?)

We're not sure how many submissions there will be, so we have set up a schedule of posting once a day only so far.

I hope you'll have fun with us! Please spread the word if you're so inclined. :))

ETA: That'll teach me to scan the list of tags too quick! DUH. <3

Sistermods, I wasn't sure how to tag this, so I did my best. Feel free to change or amend the tags of course <333

Tag lines: "Moody week is moody." "Allons-y." "We're pro-diversity - just so we're clear."
Download links: sendspace (46 MB, mp3)
Creator's notes : Yue would like it known that her accent "is a wild beast that I have no control over and [she] shouldn't be held responsible for its actions". Emef would like it known that the topic jumping is a feature, not a bug.

Hi guys! I fell off the face of the earth for a while, and completely missed [livejournal.com profile] pod_aware, and was a very sad monkey because I missed the chance to bask in and contribute to the beautiful, beautiful meta. Then today, I kind of thought I would like to do it anyway, even though it is late, in my very ramble-y, long-winded way. So I put on my headphones and talked to myself about the first three topics for [livejournal.com profile] pod_aware: Why I Pod, Blanket Permission, and Author/Podficcer relationships.

Warning: some of this stuff veers off course wildly, gets kind of weirdly heavy and personal and may actually offend you because I don't filter out my thoughts and therefore probably sound incredibly ignorant.

So yes, would you like to click here for downloads or streams?

The theme for [community profile] pod_aware day 7 is encouraging podfic. My last (heartfelt) podcast is here!

I'd also like to say, here, a huge thank you to everyone behind [community profile] amplificathon. This comm has been a constant source of encouragement and support for me over the years, and I'm sure I'm not the only one this goes for! <33

By now, you're all aware of [community profile] pod_aware (and if you're not, go check it out!) Day Five's theme is feedback. What better day to host a love meme?

How does it work?

1. Post your name in a new comment.
2. Go and leave love for others!
3. Grab a banner, make a banner, write a blurb, film an intrepretive dance, but either way, spread the word far and wide.

In light of the Podfic Appreciation Week at [community profile] pod_aware, I'm conducting an experiment I've been thinking about for a while and hosting a Multifandom Podfic Rec Tree.

Anyone who has listened to and enjoyed podfic can participate. In fact, the more, the better! The basic idea is to let yourself be inspired by the recs that are already there and branch out from them. For details find The Tree here.

Like I said, the whole thing is a bit of an experiment (I don't think something like this has been done before), so I really hope you're in a sharing mood!

Crossposted a lot; I'm sorry if I'm spamming you!
